I remember what you said TX... "If Benayoun gets number 10 he will be a first team player" ... do you still think that's the case?

possibly, i would imagine they literally asked benayoun what number he wanted, and he asked for the number 10.

If he considered chelsea a big club he wouldn't have had the guts to pick that number. I can imagine it now.. smiling like a cheshire cat as he took the most famous first team number in football history.

Could it just be a coincidence? They looked at numbers available, saw a gaps, figured he wasn't a 4 or 7, so 10 fit?

well if that is the case we won't be signing any big names, kenyon may have left but every big club saves first team numbers for planned upcoming signings.

All just players that have been given official squad numbers....

Interesting that the number 9 seems to have been taken from Di Santo..............

Al lyou people who are hating on Benayoun are disgrace, he is a Chelsea player now and deal with it. In my opinion he would do for us than Joe Cole did in last few seasons and if Joey could wear the number then why the fuck cant Benayoun wear it! Fact is that Carlo believes he is a high quality and he knows more than any of us do!

if the funds had been available carlo would not have agreed to the benayoun signing, the club will have proposed it to him and he just agreed.

plus he's 30 years old, so it's not like he has bags of time to impress.

I just saw the interview on sky sports news and he said "I took the number 10"

He didn't request that number nor was he appointed it. He also caused a rift in the team by singing you'll never walk alone for his initiation song.

Benayoun arrives to take the number 10 jersey, made available following Joe Cole's departure and subsequent arrival at our new man's former club, Liverpool. Despite their similar playing styles, Benayoun is hopeful that obvious comparisons are not drawn.

'I don't think about it. My favourite number is 15, but it is not available!' he smiled. 'I don't like to compare myself to another player, I come here to do my best and hopefully it will be good enough. Joe is in Liverpool, I wish him the best, I think he is a great player.'

Now blame Malouda!
