Ghana's Michael Essien has been ruled out of the World Cup, according to the country's football association (GFA).

The Chelsea midfielder has been struggling with injury and has been told he will not fully recover until the end of July.

The GFA said that the decision was taken after a joint evaluation of his fitness by the national side and his club.

It's sad for him really, but from the club's perspective this will prevent him from getting a more serious injury at the WC. He will be fit for the start of next season :D

Thats good for us and very very bad for Ghana ... now they don't have any chance of making to the 2nd round.

I hope he is not only 100 but 150% ready for next season because we will need him to bring the Champions League in our cabinet.

Im really happy, essien would be exhausted after carrying ghana's hopes on the shoulders. Let him rest this summer and get ready for the new season he will be like a new 40 million pound signing.

Gutted for him because 4 years ago he missed the match against Brazil and now after what looked like an innocuous collision with Drogba in the african nations cup, he's been out for bloody ages. He'll be amazing next season tho for us, like a brand new signing. Just can't wait to see him back.

Gutted for him in the fact he'll miss the tournament, but glad that he won't be rushed back and potentially exacerbate the injury. Means we'll have a full-fit Essien back sooner rather than later.

A bit gutted for him but at least he won't be getting another stupid injury from not being 100% fit. Hopefully he can get a full pre-season behind him and be fully fit for the start of next season.

Oh well it's the Ghana FA's fault for letting him play in the ACoN when he was nowhere near 100% in the first place. Everytime he goes away to play for Ghana we get him back on crutches. Not this time... Time to put your feet up and get some of that good home cooking in his belly.. And if by what ive read, ALOT of sleep...
