Connection with Rangers

Why anyone would want to be linked with the old firm I dunno.

They probably have the biggest % of idiotic fans of all teams in the world. Most can't even name half the players. Supporting a team to show your hatred for something eg Catholics, is fucking retarded too.

Just for the record.....My supporting of Rangers has nothing to do with disliking Catholics. I was born a Rangers supporter and have had many catholic friends down the years who have supported celtic and we've got on very well. I also have a few friends from Donegal who are Catholic and support Rangers, so your outlook on the Rangers support is slightly tarnished.

What I do agree with you though is those people who just buy a Rangers/Celtic top as its expected of them. I do know people who couldnt name you a starting 5 never mind a starting 11 in either of the OF teams.

Also both sets of fans do have their idiotic element, but we're not all as bad as you think . I love seeing Rangers beat Celtic and there is a lot of hatred between the sets of fans, thats only natural as you'd see with any other rivalry in football. Chelsea/Spurs, United/City, Liverpool/Everton, Hibs/Hearts, etc....

Totally understand that. Two guys I know who were brought up in Dublin and now live in Glasgow have seen both sides of the coin. Their outlook on it is that in Ireland you would probably have more fans supporting the likes of Chelsea, Manu, Liverpool Arsenal, etc...and Celtic would be more a passing interest more than anything. Where as in Glasgow its the English clubs who take a back seat. The whole British/Irish stance is highlighted more in Glasgow and in Ireland they basically couldnt give two hoots about it all.

My feeling from being a regular on quite a few Rangers forums is that although there is alot of bitterness aimed at Celtic and their support, gradually....more and more supporters would like to get away from the daily politics as you mentioned and concentrate solely on the football. The world is changing and they need to get out of the goldfish bowl they live in and see the bigger picture.

They are beginning to get out of the ''goldfish bowl'' but unfortunately it will be a long long time til clueless kids stop buying Celtic kits just because its ''cool'' and ''cos we hate proddies'' . Most Irish couldn't give a fuck anymore just like the English.

Unfortunately for the SPL though is that when both clubs get rid of the crap it is looking like the football on offer won't be all that great. The League of Ireland will probably be the same level by that time!

Chelsea fans have always had a strong connection to the forces ( Chelsea Pensioners ) and Rangers have a huge armed forces fan base. Chelsea have also got a big % of loyalist fans in comparison to other clubs . But i think the main connection is between the two sets of Hooligans http://nominated.homestead.com/ i being a protestant and a Unionist personally am very happy to be a fan of a club associated with two fantastic teams with huge support

The Headhunters have gone up to Scotland for a ruck alongside Rangers against Aberdeen in the past especially in the 80`s..when the Aberdeen Casuals were top dogs in Scotland..around the time we signed Doug Rougvie from Aberdeen,who incidentally was a nutter himself...anyone remember him headbutting John Fashanu?

can remember when he arrived he was billed by some as the best left back in Europe.. he was only probably the best at wreckless tackles,headbutting and giving away penalties.

some Chelsea fans used to follow Rangers in Europe too when English clubs were banned for what 5 years? (not that the ban really effected us anyway,we`d never qualify under the rules of qualification at the time...

i know it isn`t easy to admit it. but we have had some knobheads in our fan base over the years..though i guess it`s all part of growing up and us brits if we aint fighting our own wars we fighting someody elses.
