Chelsea's director of communications, Simon Greenberg, has resigned just two weeks after chief executive Peter Kenyon announced he was leaving the club.

Greenberg has been at Stamford Bridge since 2004 and has worked alongside Kenyon to help promote the club's image worldwide.

Itis understood Chelsea wanted the 40-year-old to stay but Greenbergconfirmed the decision to Kenyon's replacement, Ron Gourlay, andchairman Bruce Buck during talks this week.

Hewill remain in his post until the new year and the club will begin thesearch for a successor, although they may promote from within as headof media Steve Atkins has impressed since he arrived 15 months ago.

It is believed Greenberg, who used to be the sports editor of the Evening Standard, is now looking at becoming involved in London'srunning of the 2012 Olympics in some way. He is already the chairman ofLondon United, which is part of England's bid for the 2018 World Cup.
