Drink-driving ban for goalkeeper

Carlisle Utd have also disciplined the goalkeeper Carlisle United's goalkeeper LennyPidgeley has been banned from driving for three-and-a-half years afteradmitting drinking and driving.

The 25-year-old was drivinghis Mercedes M1 at about 100mph (160km/h) before police stopped him onthe A6 at Carleton, city magistrates heard.

He was breathalysed and found to be nearly twice the legal alcohol limit.

Pidgeley, of Parkland Drive, Carlisle, was disqualified for 42 months and fined £900.

Throughhis lawyer, the footballer said he had not planned to drive on 30August, and at the time did not think he had had too much to drink.

Carlisle United FC have disciplined Pidgeley but have not made the amount public, the court was told.

The goalkeeper, who previously played for Chelsea and Milwall, was signed by the club in July.
