New Chelsea signing Ross Turnbull is excited by the challenge of pushing for a starting role at Stamford Bridge.

Goalkeeper Turnbull recently penned a four-year deal with the Blues after completing a free transfer from Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old faces stiff competition in featuring for Carlo Ancelotti's side, with world-class shot-stopper Petr Cech likely to be the Italian's No.1.

Experienced keeper Henrique Hilario will also be vying for a role under Ancelotti, but Turnbull is undeterred by the competition he is set to face.

He said on the club's official website: "It's a fantastic move for me I think, one of the best clubs in the world so it wasn't a difficult decision to come here.

The best

"It's a pleasure to be here and I'm looking forward to working as hard as I can, I can still improve as I am still a young goalkeeper and with all the players here and the staff here all I can do is improve.

"Understandably it is going to be difficult, Petr Cech is one of the best in the world and it's not going to be easy, but it's up to me to work and take my chance when it may come along.

"Nothing is ever guaranteed, so I see it as a fight between all three of us and it's an exciting challenge."

60 games

Turnbull added: "Ideally you want to play first-team football but I wasn't guaranteed that at Middlesbrough so I decided to leave.

"Last season Chelsea played around 60 games so it is a squad game and I am here to be part of the squad.

"I considered all the options but I just think being a young 24-year-old goalkeeper, the chances to come to a club such as Chelsea, you can't turn it down.

"The opportunities are here for me and will only stand me in good stead for the future."

what a load of :censored:

he's come here to get a front row heated seat to all the games without having to pay to watch them.

Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the world and will last as long as Van der sar, so turnbull has no chance.

spare him some slack dude !! Its good to see that he is up for the fight, atleast spirited and enthusiastic... He may ideally be wanting to stay for a couple of yrs, learn under the tutelage of Cech and then move on to be a first team regular in a mid-table club !!! Thats fine as long as he puts in decent performances as and when he is called on !!

Have liked what i have heard from him so far. He seems a decent guy and i am sure he will work very hard in training so that when the chance comes and Petr is injured he will come into the team and do a good job. Lollichon was aparently instumental in the descision to sign him so i am sure he has seen something in his natural ability that he believes he can coach him to be a very good keeper.

Relax Terminator. It is just good he wants to play and push Cech who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, yes. But he will finally have some competition, unlike the second half of last season.

Cech's good, but by no stretch is he the best goalkeeper in the world.

Turnbull will do what no-one did to Cech at the end of last season and offer him some competition in training, so hopefully it should improve Petr's performances on the pitch as well.

He's got more chance of getting first team football at boro.

But at least he feels he's not here to be a bench warmer, Petr needs the competition that Carlo gave him.

Well if he comes to the club with the mindset of being second choice he won't push Petr at all, but coming with a positive attitude will be beneficial to both him and the other goalkeepers.
