Laylabelle 9,535
A furious Arsene Wenger is understood to be considering stripping William Gallas of the Arsenal captaincy in the wake of the defender's astonishing outburst that laid bare the scale of the dressing-room disharmony at the Emirates. Speaking while on international duty in France, Gallas complained at length about the behaviour of an unnamed team-mate and revealed that Arsenal players had fought amongst themselves at half-time during last month's 4-4 draw with Tottenham. Not only is Wenger likely to be enraged that the sanctuary of the dressing-room has been violated by his skipper but he is bound to reflect darkly on the motivation of Gallas' diatribe given that the 31-year-old's new autobiography is being published in France today. "As captain, players come up to you and talk to you about a player, complaining about him. And then, during the match, you speak to this player and the player in question insults us," said Gallas. "There comes a time when we can no longer comprehend how this can happen. I am trying to defend myself without giving names. Otherwise I'm taking it all. "It's very frustrating. I'm 31, the player is six years younger than me. There are things that can't be said and can't be tolerated." Only three players in the Arsenal squad are aged 25 - Bacary Sagna, Emmanuel Eboue and the notoriously-volatile Robin van Persie. The Dutchman has been named by The Sun as 'fighting' with Theo Walcott at half-time during the North London derby. Wenger has yet to speak publicly about Gallas' outburst, although he is facing fresh mounting pressure to strip his compatriot of the armband. 'Wenger, a stickler for the sanctity of the dressing-room, is furious that internal problems have been made public and is understood to have said as much to Gallas in a meeting at the club's training ground yesterday,' reports The Times. 'Wenger will not take any action before tomorrow's Barclays Premier League visit to Manchester City but he plans to review the captaincy over the next couple of weeks, with Cesc Fabregas and Gaël Clichy the most likely successors.'
