FA calls off Battle of the Sexes

The Football Association has called off a charity match between Chelsea Ladies and a Chelsea Old Boys XI, ruling men and women cannot play together.

The "Battle of the Sexes" match was scheduled to take place on Sunday.

“It is a real shame that our men and women have been prevented from enjoying a friendly game," Chelsea stated.

"Its sole purpose is to raise money for our Past Players' Trust which assists ex-players and staff members who have financial or health difficulties."

The FA's position is that it prohibits mixed football games over the age of 11. The friendly match was to have pitted ex-Chelsea players like Clive Walker, Ray Wilkins and Tommy Langley against the club's Ladies team.

What a bloody joke! It was for charity for christs sake!! How pathetic. The FA need their heads looking at.

I'm just wondering what jurisdiction the FA actually had over this game seeing as it's not in an FA run competition. The only thing I can think of is the referee and surely the club could have gotten anyone to be the ref for the day.
