Radamel Falcao

If that old Drogba was playing for Marseille during this period i think he will cost around 25-30m, not 50m.

50m is just way over the top, not many players have cost that or more, ever. Liverpool got Suarez for around 25m or whatever, and that's a very good deal.

Before we got Torres for 50m, i don't remember that many players linked with moves for that fee, seems we started the trend -_-

I think he would have gone for about what Aguero went (38m).

I agree we have started a terrible trend (but wasnt because of Torres, it was Roman's money and ambition that brought inflation) and I realise no one is worth 50m (some special ones aside), but we are in need for a striker when he is in top of his form.

Cavani can go for about 35m in August, but do we really wait to gamble a top4 or more competition?

Aguero, David Villa and Etoo off the top of my head.

Personally I blame Newcastle for signing Alan Shearer for £15 million....

38m is too much for a striker from Marseille imo, but anyway that's not the main point here.

I would say we're in need of a striker who can add 20-25 goals to what we already get from the rest of the squad. Falcao can do this, but so can many other strikers.

They are some good strikers out there, but we won't look at them because they're not big names. Just like we did not look at Falcao when his release clause was much lower at Porto (he then signed a new deal and moved to Atletico 2 weeks later)

Who?

I can't write names like i'm an expert, but that's why we have scouts. I mentioned Suarez in an earlier post, a player we missed out on because we were going after the big name, expensive player - Mario Gomez and Torres.

A player like Soldado has scored 20 or more in his past 3 seasons, i'm sure he will have the same success when he eventually leaves Valencia. Lewandowski scored 30 last season, 6 less than Falcao, another player i'm sure will do well wherever he ends up. Higuain like i mentioned yesterday is a good finisher and scores a lot for a player who's rotated often. That's just 3 names from my limited knowledge of other leagues. (Oh yeah and there's Huntelaar and Llorente who scored close to 30 last season, but they've already been many discussions about them)

Falcao will add more than 20-25 goals per season, his upside is way greater than goals. Now find me someone who will bring it and still costs 20-25m. I will openly accept him!

What is this upside that is greater than goals? i don't know, so i can't answer the question.

He brings goals, and there's nothing wrong with that - as that is what you expect when you buy a striker

The real question is are we willing to buy an average striker(demba ba, papis cisse) and a central midfielder only to find out that the striker can't finish the chances??

Are we underatting how important someone with good finishing brings to the team?? The CWC spoiled chances anyone??

Some statements

1. "Falcao only thrives on opportunities created for him." The fact is every striker needs the chances to be created for him, the difference is falcao is the best finisher.

2. "He doesn't do anything outside the box" please falcao is not messi, no player dribbles 5 pple to score but messi. Not cavani, not lewandoski. Falcao just does the basic things, "receive pass, pass the ball to the AM, make a run, receive the return pass and score". Perfect example is the goal against barcelona.

3. Falcao is scoring 40 goals with average midfielders and some people here are underating that feat?? Mata and hazard are 10times more intelligent than athletico and porto playmakers and yet falcao scores 40goals in 45games. When sturridge made runs, mata found him easily but he missed. Falcao is the master of making runs, and he will score the chances. Infact from most of the posts I'm seeing people are even underatting the runs falcao makes, its funny how people were saying torres doesn't make runs sometime ago.

4. Manure have been shit defensively but are still winning games, are looking better than mancity JUST BECAUSE THEY GOT A GOALSCORER (VANPERSIE) this season. Who has scored against chelsea, arsenal and mancity (BIG GAMES).

We have lost drogba our big game saver and we have a chance to get another and some people are underatting the importance of big games here?? :banghead:

People are only worried because we can use some of the money for falcao to boost other areas of our squad, we all understand. But stop underatting falcao, its getting ridiculous he is among the top 10 best players in the world right now.

1. Shirt sales and sponsors.

2. More fans.

3. Pressure off some youngsters.

4. Mental impact on the opposition and space for other attacking players.

5. Assists (how many Torres has?).

There are more a "regular" striker wont bring...

If he never scored that hattrick against us, i seriously doubt this thread would of been so popular.

It probably helped, but the guy's reputation was simply solidified in that game.

Are there other options? Yes. But Falcao ticks more boxes than the other options and you pay a premium for that sometimes.

I don't buy the first two points at all. How's is Falcao going to do all that? He isn't bloody David Beckham.

Most of these are not important mate. And as for assists lol, Falcao rarely even passes in the box. Torres is the same, except for last season when he had double digits assists.

Also 4: Mental impact? people will actually love to face him and "welcome" him to the league. And every decent striker can create space, Torres does this.

I think Cavani would've been better for us last year and that Falcao will be better for us now, and especially next season if we actually get the guy we know Roman wants. I really like Cavani, but I look at what our club wants to do and Falcao really does seem the best choice.

The first two points are completely true for casual and abroad fans. Dont try to deny the increase in marketing revenue big sigings have. The sponsor aspect is more of better deals due to the increase in media impact. The fans we get are the plastic ones (that usually follow the trend), but they still bring money. I am experiencing it with Oscar, our shirt sales and media exposure has almost double because of him.

The "mental impact" is true, in any sport. For instance, dont you think RG3 worries his opposition and cheers his teammates?
