ChelseaFanUK 1,014
If it is as "imminent" as some reports say, it will be announced before Copa America, like we did Fabregas before Spain's opening game. Pinch of salt in order here
Leif 6,006
idk there's plenty of players who've been really good, had a shit season or 2, who've then gone on to be a star again the following season, from Banega to Song to Young to Fellaini to Menez to De Bruyne to even Fabregas. Players play differently when they're in new surroundings and conditions. All but the United players flourished once moving club. Why not Falcao? He's always been destined to move here. I'm sure we hold the key to his success.
Leif 6,006
Also, I'd say the majority of United fans, at least on Twitter, do agree that Falcao and Van Persie too simply lacked creativity behind them. The players who'd usually assist them decided to be the goalscorers themselves. Imagine how Inzaghi would have looked without service. He'd be called a tree trunk. Gilvorak 3,734
This is basically a high risk, high reward transfer. He flops & we have another Shevchenko/Nando liability type signing on our plate, he regains his pre-Monaco form & we've got WC player for a bargain.I'm not in favour of this signing purely for the fact I prefer multi-dimensional strikers such as Benzema, Ibrahimovic, Suarez, Lewandowski over outright poachers but I can see Jose's thinking behind this. King11Didier 916
I will be ok if we sign him on loan. But on permanent transfer with so much money for Monaco is rediculous. And it is because of some reasons:He is nowhere near his best or good form and we had the opportunity to watch him closely this season. He is expected to be 3rd choice in attack, as Remy showed this season how important for the club he can be. This money for 3rd choice striker are wayyy too much. But no one knows what Jose have in mind for him if this rumours are true. Maybe if he is thinking of using Remy on the wing, then Falcao can have more playing time as a striker. We will just wait and see what will happen and it looks like we won't be waiting too much. DYC. 7,542
Shevchenko, Torres, Eto'o, Falcao. Big name strikers. All world-class at one point in their career. None signed at the peak of their powers. If only this thread read Zlatan Ibrahimovic instead.

DYC. 7,542
Ibra wouldn't be joining at his peak, either.Obviously. He would add a lot more to the team with his power and technique though. But it was merely a personal wish rather than a real option. Edit: While he's not at his best, he's still one of the best strikers around btw.I do wonder if we'll ever see some superstar striker joining the club. chrismada9 1,948
It would have been better off us doing what United did, and loan him with the option to buy at the end of the season. Signing him permanently is a real risk if I'm being honest.. it almost feels like we're obtaining another Torres-esque individual!..better still, I'd rather not see us sign him at all, and give Bamford his deserved opportunity in the first team! We get a homegrown player, 'and' we stick to following the FFP regulations!I understand I'm bringing up Financial Fair Play a lot in my posts, but for a club like us, we need to be doing as much as we can to balance the books in terms of club finances. UEFA rules state that in order for clubs to compete in their competitions, books need to be balanced. Roman is hugely passionate about our club and he wants to bring as much success as possible, but imagine if he was someone like Malcolm Glazer or Randy Lerner. At the end of the day, our club in its entirety, still owe a lot of money to Roman, and if he was to just suddenly walk away....Please excuse my negativity about our club's status.. I'm a cautious fan after all!
Eidur the Spider 4,515
This is a weird one for me.I've always wanted Falcao here.....but the Falcao I wanted was the one at Athletico. Fingers crossed he rediscovers his touch and gets going well with the help of hazard, Willian and fabrepass behind him. The prospect of Falcao and Costa lining up together for us does fill me with excitement....is it misplaced? Let's see!!
Leif 6,006
I do wonder if we'll ever see some superstar striker joining the club. honestly, how many clubs wanted Costa last summer? how good was he last season? what defines a superstar? DYC. 7,542
honestly, how many clubs wanted Costa last summer? how good was he last season? what defines a superstar? A player that has proved himself to be a stand out player over a number of years. Costa was brilliant in 13/14, but it was one season. Edit: Remember the good amount of skepticism when he first joined?I really don't know how many clubs wanted Costa. I don't think it was host of clubs though. The likes of Real, Bayern, PSG, Utd, City were set, Barca went for Suarez. Juve don't make big money signings like that (not like before), don't remember him being linked to Arsenal at all. Leaves you with Chelsea.Edit: I should rephrase that statement though. Torres was a superstar signing but he flopped. He wasn't in his best form when he joined (I remember terrible World Cup performances), but people thought he'd find his old form again. Same goes for Sheva. So rather a succesful one. chrismada9 1,948
I've always wanted Falcao here.....but the Falcao I wanted was the one at Atletico.Exactly my thoughts. Plus, it was at the time wherea world class striker was needed immensely. We have Costa as a leading striker now, and it works greatly because he has support either side of him in the form of wingers. (Hazard and Willian)The prospect of Falcao and Costa lining up together for us does fill me with excitement....is it misplaced? Let's see!! But will it work? Does Mourinho enjoy seeing two strikers up front tactically? Falcao and Costa have a lot of similarities to their game.. it's almost like explaining the comparison of Gerrard and Lampard as far as England is concerned. Previous England managers used to place both of them in the middle of the park and most of the time it didn't work properly because of their similar roles. Our current 4-3-3 works because the lone striker has a lot of support from the two wingers, while in the middle of the park, you have two central mids to create and roam freely, and a CDM (Matic) to successfully break up opposition play. Each section of the formation has a different role to play, and Mourinho likes this a lot. If you have two similar roles playing up top, one could get in the way of the other. I suspect the reason why Falcao had problems at United was because van Persie was there, and I guess you could say Rooney can accustom to the comparison, although most of the time, he played in behind the striker position.
