I'm all for players coming through our academy -the price to pay would be a drop in the clubs fortunes, and this proposed ruling is designed to do just that -to decrease the potencey of the EPL and improve the status of foreign league clubs. Chelsea or cricket ??? before i started watching football, I was a cricket buff thru and thru, then i shifted home and circumstances changed and the only sport i had the option of playing was football, got addicted and now theres no looking back.. The other reason imo being they get paid bloody well here compared to other leagues.. You wouldn't believe David Villa's wages if i told you.. valencia still has a salary cap.. Your right there is an element of lazyness in it. But i think that would be better to adress somehow than trying to force clubs to play more English players. I am not sure if next season it is 3 or 4 homegrowns we are supposed to have. We have JT as one. And there is the possibility of Mancienne and Cork being involved next season but other than that we have no-one else ready yet. Sinclair is not eligable still i think because of his loan spells!! Spanish and Italian football had their dominance pre TV money days, and the EPL having its foreign influx . I wouldnt like to see English football go down the pan, but it has to be looked at in context. To some extent prople are still getting off on '66 and all that -for me that went down the pan with 3 lions and the Lightning Seeds, ..England are and always will be -even with FIFAs ruling, also rans. -UK population , not England is what 60 million ? England must be 40 million tops. Its a global game -Brazils population is 190 million, Nigeria has 150 million people, even the fucking Phillipines has 88 million. In context as more countries get into the game it stands to reason that England will not have a big resource of players. FIFAS plan will not stop financial dominance, or make English football great, but it will hinder non European countries in their players coming to Europe Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, there is no restriction on the number of non-eligible players under contract with the club, nor on substitutes to avoid non-sportive constraints on the coaches (potentially 3+8 at the end of a match). Explanation The 6+5 rule in club football has been accepted as a resolution by FIFA at its meeting in Sydney on 29 and 30 May 2008. The objective of this rule is to restore the national identity of football clubs who have increasingly resorted to fielding foreign players in their squad. EskWeston 696 Posted February 26, 2009 Share Posted February 26, 2009 Very interesting, this is a compeltely different turn of events from the current "Home-Grown" UEFA rule, which allows us to play players like Stoch as a home grown player. 6 players from the country of the club. A.Cole, JT, Lampard, J.Cole..... thats only 4 definate starters!! Mancienne and Sinclair would make 6. 6 for the "starting" 11 is a bold move!! Time for us to start fast tracking some English youngsters through. Mancienne, Sinclair, Bertrand and Cork for a start! This will certainly chuck the cat amongst the pigeons.
