6+5 Nonsense

Is it the usual wibble from Blatter as he dribbles and rocks in his chair, or a brainwave that will encourage youth development programmes, like the one at Cobham we were on about yesterday

Football's governing body Fifa has endorsed president Sepp Blatter's 'six-plus-five' principle, which would limit the foreign players in a team to five. He wants to bring in the proposal by 2012/2013 - but the European Commission says it is discriminatory and illegal.

Good idea or what ?

The Premiership is the 'strongest' league in the world, in terms of players and generating revenue worldwide from TV rights. This is a clear plan to weaken the Premiership -and strengthen the leagues in Italy, Spain etc. A Platini Blatter cunning plan.

It may create a more level playing field for European Leagues, but the restriction of 'foreigners' will have a detrimental effect on developing countries.

FIFA will run into opposition, not just from the EU, but also from Sky and TV companies who will see their Premiership cash cow diminish.

If it was to go ahead it would in theory benefit the national team. It would however weaken the Premier League! I can see the reasoning behind it, getting young English players through is a priority. The current UEFA home grown rule doesn't cover it, because foreign players who have come through at a young age are eligable. For example why we havn't sent out Stoch on loan is so he fits the rule.....

Can't ever see it happening though.

Funny how this is announced when there are two EPL clubs in the CL final.

This is allegedly designed to 'help the development of younger players from their respective countries'. Yeah right, so how's it going to help young Ivory Coast, Welsh or Senagalese players ?

It's nothing more than a Eurovision mob ganging up to ensure there are more Spanish. Portuguese Italian clubs winning Euro trophies.

Up Yer Arse Bladder.

I love the idea and i cant wait for it to happen, sooner the better. We are English teams, in an English league and we need our English players to be given a chance. True Chelsea boys who dream to play for their team and will give 100% every week, every day for the team they love, not money grabbing foreigners who dont care about the club. Also fantastic for International football.

this rule will be for every country so bring it in!

Yeah that bloody Zola and Vialli, Hasselbaink, Cech, Gudjohnsen - money grabbing bastards.

Some of our best players have been English, some haven't. Nationality shouldn't come into it.

It's great to have English players in the side, but they seem to get preference in things like voting , when players like Carvalho get ignored.

I'd rather have a dedicated foreigner than an English scouse mercenary like Gerrard in the team.

Correct me if i'm wrong ollie, but the riule states that homegrown here means the player having spent 3 years between 15-21 in that country, irrespective of the fact whether he's the native or not, so stoch qualifies as homegrown but someone like hargreaves doesn't..

so it doesnt do much for the english players..

I didnt say they are all Money grabbing bastards, just the true Chelsea yougsters that break through the accademy to play for the team they love need to be given a chance. Half the foreigners, well probs the majority wouldnt of come to Chelsea if Chelsea were shit would they? "I came here to win things, i came because this side can win the champions league"

Well whatever...Its gonna happen and i'm looking forward to it. When Freddy Sears scored that goal for West Ham vs Blackburn, living a dream, thats what real football is about. A West Ham lad scoring the winner on his debut at upton park in the premiership.

Players like John Terry and Freddy Sears, we need more of in football

Thats my opinion anyway.

In truth we dont need to panic,we've got English players and a fair selection and hopfully more coming up the ranks.

Arsenal though haha Wengers gana have such a hissy fit!I remember when we played then in December. There were something like 4/5 english players all the field all playing for us lol

Not that it'll make us any better as a whole country considering you know we've been crud since 1966 so duno how this will suddenly make us be amazing as the media decide we are when world cup comes around

Well no, it's probably got something to do with the club offering them

£100 000+per week as well.

It's nothing more than FIFA panicking about the EPL, and curtailing the money and dominance of the top 4.

Platini and Blatter have dressed it up to appeal to Spanish, French, Italian clubs, because they have a tradition of having home grown players, and as a consequence their leagues are not as strong.

If it comes in (very doubtful as it breaks European Employment legislation), Chelsea, the top 4, and the EPL will in no way be as strong.

At the end of the day I support Chelsea, nationality doesn't come into it.
