the wes 7,212
Ricardo Carvalho expects the Chelsea team to break up after next week's Champions League Final. Carvalho, who is a target for both Milan clubs, is among a number of first-team players considering their futures. Up to eight of the squad will be leaving in the summer and Carvalho's name has been added to a potential exit list that includes Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Wayne Bridge and Juliano Belletti. Carvalho said: "You have to be prepared for the team to change after the final because people go, people stay and people come in. I don't know yet if I'm staying. I have a contract." The Chelsea players' Player of the Year for the second season running was signed by Jose Mourinho from his old club Porto in 2004, when several players were sold after the Portuguese club won the Champions League Final against Monaco. Carvalho could make his final appearance for the club against Manchester United in Moscow after recovering from a back injury that ruled him out of the last game of the League season. He said: "Nobody was expecting Porto to win the Champions League. Now everyone says Chelsea have to win it. We have big players here. "Everyone has known each other here for a long time and we enjoy each other's company. We have to try to win this last game. We didn't win the Premier League so we have to get a medal." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=566666&in_page_id=1779&ito=newsnow
Elliott 7
Sounds like a very neutral comment to me, but you can tell that if the right offers come for Riccy he will be off.
True_Blue 469
Him leaving would be a massive blow to our defence.
warnie_666 1,081
He may join his old coach Jose Mourinho. But to be honest. He spoke the truth, 8-9 players will be out and 7-9 players will be brought in. Several players will be linked to several Big Clubs.
Badboy 1,526
We really dont need a drastic change.
pluto 0
If Chelsea wim the CL there is bound to be lots of change, Grant will then have the power to get rid of players he doesn't want more quickly and players likewise who might consider themselves in the ultimate shop window might decide for themselves for one final big pay day and disappear off to pastures new. Like Riccy said, it's inevitable really.
Fulham Broadway 17,319
There is no correlation with the title ''Carvalho expects plenty of player exits'' and what he is 'supposed' to have said; ''You have to be prepared for the team to change after the final because people go, people stay and people come in. I don't know yet if I'm staying. I have a contract." Still lets not that get in the way of a sensational headline....
EskWeston 696
Nothing in that story really. We all know players will be comming and going, nothing new there. And the comment about him not knowing if he is staying, it depends on the context really, he could mean that he doesn't know if the club will want to keep him rather than him not knowing if he WANTS to stay! 2 different things completely... We certainly need to keep Riccy he is top top class.
Byatt 0
We all know there are going to be exits over the summer, and i fully expect Avram Grant to rebuild the squad and turn it from Jose Mourinho's team into his own team... I think SWP, Belletti, Sidwell, Ben-Haim, Shevchenko, Pizarro, Drogba and Malouda could all be on their way out in the coming months, obviously not all of those players will leave, but for the majority of this season 7 of the 8 players mentioned have struggled to get a regular game under Grant and for players of their talent they're wasted sitting in the stands listening to their iPods every week. Players like Carvalho are the ones we should be striving to keep

So there is going to be a turnaround of players this summer, it was inevitable, whoever the manager is going to be will want to make their mark on the team.... I am sure Carvalho will stay though
Jon 18
Carvalho’s Future at Chelsea This summer will be one of transition for Chelsea. By all accounts money will be spent. There will be quite a few acquisitions and with that comes the fact that quite a few of the boys will be gone. In my opinion there are only a handful of players whom Chelsea should go that extra mile to try and keep at the club. Those being John Terry, Michael Essien, Petr Cech and Ricardo Carvalho. This doesn’t mean that Lampard, Ballack, Drogba, Joe Cole and the like aren’t important to the club, because they are. But for Chelsea, those 4 standout to me. Whether it be for passion and club persona (Terry), brilliance and versatility (Essien), being the best keeper in the world (Cech), or just being a rock in defense (Carvalho). nikno 1
No one in the world can replace Carvalho, I wouldn't accept a bid of £50million for him - he's too valuable. No one can do the things he does, selling him wouldn't make sense.
SW_Blue 71
Rightly said. Carvalho is indeed invaluable. I really hope he doesn't leave. If he does, I think it would most probably be for Mourinho's team. And I may be out of touch here, but why do we keep hearing of Lampsy wanting to leave us? After playing such an important part in making the team what it is today and after all the support the entire team and management gave him during his troubled times? I really hope all these rumours turn out to be just that.

warnie_666 1,081
I am sure i read something a couple of weeks ago that Frank said he is going to stay and in talks over a new deal! And I am sure I read somehwere that Lampard has rejected a "Take it or Leave it" deal offered by Chelsea and wants a better deal. Coming back to the topic. It is true that players will leave after winning the Champion's League. Various factors why they leave: a) If the club wins the UCL they would obviously want to strenghten their team. Players feel that there is nothing more to achieve now that they have won the UCL with this particular club. Could be any of those.

And I honestly can't see that many changes happening. We've seen with Liverpool, that making 15+ changes to the squad is nothing but deteremental. Ollie 4,400
Nothing was stated here really. "You have to be prepared for the team to change after the final because people go, people stay and people come in". This happens to every team, every season. Currently i reckon Riccy is the best defender in the world, but if he goes then so be-it, it happens. Players dont often stay for the rest of their careers. New challenges etc. Maybe Lamps will go if we win the UCL, he wouldve done everything he couldve possible done, he can't achieve anythiung else. Everyone has to move on. ChicagoCFC 0
There is absolutely no reason to let go of Essien or Riccardo C. I do think we do need to clean house. Cheats (Drogba) and slackers (Lampard) need to fuck off to Spain and Italy. Wayne Bridge will be missed. I wish he would stay for another year or two but I understand we must remain top flight. He's done fine behind the gooner Cole this year.
Elliott 7
Considering Lampard and Drogba are two of our most important players right now, I sure hope that if you were in Grant's position you'd have a hell of a tactic change and transfer plan in place after shoving them out of the door.
