Behemoth 266
I hate mixing politics with sports but during the Steaua game I noticed a lot of fascist flags, and I know this is the case with many Eastern European clubs nowadays.Has CFC elevated above the right wing/left wing nonsense or are there still factions within the fan base? I know traditionally Chelsea has been considered a right wing club but nowadays, its difficult to make such an association because of the diversity of the fan base, and the international nature of the club. TorontoChelsea 4,064
No football club is completely above politics, but Chelsea are a world-wide team now and groups like the Chelsea Headhunters are a tiny percentage of the fan base. There are racists in every clubs' supporters, of course, and we have to try to fight it when we see it, but it's not a major issue at Chelsea IMO. (and certainly nothing like you see in much of continental Europe).
TacticalBlues 2,817
Yep I don't see it at Chelsea really. In other countries though it is a lot worse, saw this the other day: A Muslim player scored for their team and loads of Israeli supporters left the ground. Their fans routinely shout racist chants, hold up facist flags, signs, etc.

Behemoth 266
That act by the fans had nothing to do with religion - that would take away the individual blame. Their religion was not responsible for that. Let them own their actions.
Rmpr 8,977
Zenit fans would do the same or worse if a Black or Gay player scored for them (they wouldnt even accept them playing, but whatever). What does religion has to do with it? Religion is not a living thing to be evil. Those who use it to promote bad behaviours (because at the end of the day it is a politic tool just like any other) are the real problem... The Skipper 20,609
The problem is with religion, it's a brainwashing tool and the extremists are simply inevitable products.Religion isn't brainwashing at all IMO. It's just that there are always a small minority who do extreme stuff. It's very much like being a football fan - e.g. at Chelsea, you have normal fans, and then you have extreme hooligan fans i.e. the Chelsea Headhunters. It's just how human beings are. Most people are religious for various reasons, mainly personal; some because they want to get to know their inner self better, some because it'll help them cope better with a loss etc. Saying religion is a "brainwashing tool" isn't true IMO. I'm talking about the grand scale of religion, and it is my firm belief it is evil and the world would be better off without it, there is nothing you can say to convince me otherwise. The way the Middle East and other nutcase regions are divided by such fictitious matters is a good example of how it divides groups of people and makes them commit crimes against each other for absolutely nothing. Every religion in itself is divided by believing different things and interpreting the "teachings" differently than the others of the same faith. You have the lutherans and the catholics and the protestants and tens or even hundreds of other christian subdivisions, they can't even agree on anything among themselves. What does it give them by labelling themselves? Does it make them feel better? You have all the different hostile muslim factions fighting each other, even though they believe the same god. It's ridiculous. It is no different from choosing political parties.

Spain has a lot of racism unfortunately, even the Madrid clubs have problems with it.About religion. It's obviously a weighty topic and very complex and difficult for many to discuss. I don't really get religion, how anyone can believe in some creator being that watches over us and judges us based on our morality, is beyond me. Marx was wrong about a lot, but he was right about religion being the opiate of the masses. When people think there is going to justice in the world to come, they can overlook the horrible injustices in the real world. That said, I can see where religion comes from. It's a natural instinct and I don't think that without religion, we'd have peace or anything. People find ways to divide themselves and squabble. We are tribal beings which once may have served us well but now destroys us. Overall, if someone wants to be religious, I don't care at all, just don't try to force it on anyone and don't use it as an excuse not to allow basic human rights. Everything can be used to brainwash mass population and it is up to individuals to use it for good or bad. Conflits are part of human nature, people fight for various reasons and missunderstandings, it is not something atributed solely to religous stuff. You are literally saying that the essence of religion is bad. It is not, they all basically instigate good concepts and behavior, but people misuse it!
