Daniel Sturridge set for Bolton Wanderers move

Bolton are close to agreeing a deal to sign Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge on loan, BBC Sport understands.

Sturridge, 21, has been handed just four starts this season, with 17 substitute appearances, and has scored four goals.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti insisted he would use more of his younger players at the start of the season.

But Sturridge was also offered to Liverpool as part of a deal to sign Reds striker Fernando Torres.

Liverpool want £50m for the Spanish forward and rejected Chelsea's first offer of £35m.

They also turned down Chelsea's offer of cash plus Sturridge to try and sanction a deal but that was also rejected by Liverpool.

Since moving from Manchester City in 2009, Sturridge has struggled to make his mark in a Chelsea side that includes forwards Anelka, Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Solomon Kalou.

He has scored nine goals in the two seasons he has been at the west London club. He also has 10 caps for the England under-21 team.

Bolton Wanderers can confirm the signing of Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has been capped by England at a number of ages groups ranging from under-16 to under-21 level and looks set to go straight into Owen Coyle's squad for Wednesday's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.

Birmingham-born Sturridge was part of the Chelsea squad that won the league and cup double last term, having signing at Stamford Bridge from Manchester City and has also appeared and scored in the UEFA Champions League.

Indeed Sturridge already has experience playing alongside the likes of Fabrice Muamba, following his exploits with the England international team.

"I'm really pleased to have Daniel with us," manager Coyle said. "He's a terrific young talent and one of the most exciting strikers in the country. We're all looking forward to working with him."

And upon putting pen to paper Sturridge said: "I spoke with the manager and he outlined what he hopes to achieve and his plans. It was an easy decision to sign for Bolton Wanderers and I'm looking forward to linking up with the squad on Tuesday."
