Red Star football clubs

Red Star Football Club, also known simply as Red Star (French pronunciation: [ʁɛd staʁ futbɔl klœb]), is a French football club founded in Paris in 1897, and is the fourth oldest French football club, after Standard AC of Paris,[2] Le Havre AC and Girondins de Bordeaux. As of the 2024–25 season, Red Star competes in the Ligue 2, the French second tier, after being promoted from Championnat National at the end of the 2023–24 season. The club plays its home matches at Stade Bauer.[3]

Despite the club's long spell under a semi-pro status, Red Star has a rich history. The club was founded in 1897 under the name Red Star Club Français by French football legend Jules Rimet. Rimet later went on to serve as president of both the French Football Federation and FIFA. The original FIFA World Cup Trophy was named in his honour. Red Star was one of the founding member clubs of Ligue 1 and has spent 19 seasons in the first division; the club's last top tier stint being in 1974–75. In cup competitions, the club has won five Coupe de France titles, which is tied for fifth-best among all French clubs.

While the club have enjoyed only modest success on the field, the club is widely recognised for its distinctive social culture. Red Star supporters are strongly identified with their support of left-wing politics, social activism and a party atmosphere they create at the club's matches.[4]

The club was purchased by US-based private investment firm 777 Partners in May 2022, a move which saw demonstrations from fans leading to the postponement of a Championnat National match in April 2022.

Red Star Football Club was founded on 21 February 1897 in a Parisian café by Jules Rimet and Ernest Weber under the name Red Star Club Français. The derivation of the name is uncertain; it is possibly taken from the red star of Buffalo Bill or possibly in reference to Miss Jenny, a British governess based in Paris who was adopted as the godmother of the club, who recommended the club be named after the historic shipping line, the Red Star Line.[7] Upon its creation, Rimet installed Jean de Piessac as club president and one of his younger brothers as club secretary. The club was officially inaugurated on 12 March 1897 after Rimet signed the club's statutes and sent them to the USFSA, which, during this time, served as the head of French football. Members of the club were required to pay 100 a month to help the club meet its daily quota. Red Star officially joined the USFSA in 1898 and was inserted into the third-tier of the association's football league system. In the club's infancy, the team played in navy blue and white at the Champ de Mars. However, soon after, Red Star moved to Meudon playing on a terrace overlooking the Seine Valley.[8] Midway through the year, de Piessac left his post as club president. Rimet quickly succeeded him and, by 1904, Red Star were playing in the first division of the USFSA league.[9]

Fudbalski klub Crvena zvezda (Serbian Cyrillic: Фудбалски клуб Црвена звезда, lit.'Red Star Football Club'), commonly referred to as Crvena zvezda (pronounced [tsř̩ʋenaː zʋěːzda]) or simply Zvezda, and as Red Star Belgrade in Anglophone media, is a Serbian professional football club based in Belgrade, and a major part of the Red Star multi-sport society.

They are the most successful club from the Balkans and Southeast Europe, being the only club to have won both the European Cup and Intercontinental Cup, having done so in 1991, and only the second team from Eastern Europe to win the European Cup. With 35 national championships, 28 national cups, 2 national supercups, 2 national champions leagues and one league cup between Serbian and Yugoslav competitions, Red Star was the most successful club in Yugoslavia and finished first in the Yugoslav First League all-time table, and is the most successful club in Serbia. Since the 1991–92 season, Red Star's best results were reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage, the UEFA Europa League round of 16 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup round of 16.

According to 2008 polls, Red Star Belgrade is the most popular football club in Serbia, with 48% of the population supporting them.[2] They have many supporters in other former Yugoslav countries and among the Serbian diaspora. Their main rivals are fellow Belgrade side Partizan. The championship matches between these two clubs are known as the "eternal derby".

According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics' list of the Top 200 European clubs of the 20th century, Red Star is the highest-ranked Serbian and Balkan club, sharing the 27th position on the list with Dutch club Feyenoord.

History

Yugoslavia and Serbia-Montenegro period

[edit]

In February 1945, during World War II, a group of young men, active players, students and members of the Serbian United Antifascist Youth League, decided to form a Youth Physical Culture Society, that was to become Red Star Belgrade on 4 March. Previously, as of December 1944, all pre-war Serbian clubs were abolished, and on 5 May 1945, communist Secretary of Sports Mitra Mitrović-Djilas signed the decree dissolving formally all pre-war clubs on the territory of Socialist Republic of Serbia. The clubs were dissolved because during the German occupation, there was an attempt to organize the league so all the clubs were labelled collaborators by Josip Broz Tito's communist regime.

The name Red Star was assigned after a long discussion. Other ideas shortlisted by the delegates included "People's Star", "Blue Star", "Proleter", "Stalin", "Lenin", etc.[3] The initial vice presidents of the Sport Society – Zoran Žujović and Slobodan Ćosić – were the ones who assigned it.[4] Red Star was soon adopted as a symbol of Serbian nationalism within Yugoslavia and a sporting institution which remains the country's most popular to this day.[5] On that day, Red Star played the first football match in the club's history against the First Battalion of the Second Brigade of KNOJ (People's Defence Corps of Yugoslavia) and won 3–0.

The world is coming to an end:

- Trump
- Brexit
- Lepen
- Tunberg
- Mitsotakis
- Orban presiding over the EU
- ...

When was the day zero and who was responsible for day zero ?
The day zero was in 2006 when the euroconsitution was downvoted.
Responsible is the left and not the right who polled 1.8% those days (Lepen 20% in France).

Even tho the article is about trump/Harris, my question is about BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cv2g22365yqo

Do they usually run articles with pieces with such blatant false-equivalency? I mean the actual facts is pretty clear, and I don't anyone does not know what Fox News is in relation to Trump. So, the headline itself seems pretty dishonest.

Well I guess it's one way of putting it, but the reality is that trump is backing off. There will be lawsuits over the abc one, for example.

We shall see, but the way I read as if Chelsea FC were playing a single-elim with another team, and they only *accepted* to play a single match and at the Stamford Bridge... I bet the headline would've been a bit different then.

This is the story that may hurt trump in the elections https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/aug/02/trump-campaign-2016-egypt-investigation

"Report reveals secret US inquiry into alleged 2016 Egyptian $10m gift to Trump"

The most interesting part was how the FBI investigation was killed by the DOJ (Barr).

Rep, that ratfucker Barr (Trump's US Attorney General, the most powerful of all the POTUS Cabinet postions) is a criminal cunt, same as his master, Trump

he was Trump's legal 'catch and kill' chief goon

he also leaked the Mueller Report (only parts and with massive spin and lies) early

His appointment looks like a big mistake by Biden admin tbh here.

Garland was by far Biden's worst appointemnt.

A feckless cunt, who IF Trump somehow nightmarishly wins, will be judged extraordinarily harshly by the historians (provided Trump doeasnt kick off WWIII and get us all nuked).

Second worst is that git who is the Chair of The Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, a RW Trump appointee who Biden stupidly re-nominated.

Of that those two berks, Biden did fairly good.

The POS centre right Democratic Senators Manchin and Sinema blocked some of his best nominees as well, besides their other very extensive skulduggery that rat-fucked their own party (and the US as a whole).
