What can we Learn From Juventus Boom and Bust to Eventual Recovery?

Juventus and Inter where the only teams to never have descended to second division in the Serie A. But the scandal of Calciopoli changed everything. It is a very complicated theme with corrupt judges, money, mafia and so much more, and I am not here to discuss that issue. What I do want to focus is how Juventus went from a team that was relegated to the second division to being today a potential contender for the Serie A title.

In 2006 Juventus had one of the best team in the planet. Going back before that, Juventus had a great worked under their belt; with the likes of great coaches like Trappatoni followed by Lippi and then Capello. Not to mention spectacular players like Del Piero, Buffon, Ibra, Inzahgi, Davids, Trezeguet, Henry, Roberto Baggio, Zidane, Ndeved, etc etc.

After Juventus was relegated to the second division a lot of players jumped ship. Only 6 players remained because of their love for the club. Those six are known as the 6 Samurais, Buffon, Chiellini, Nedved, Camoranesi, Trezeguet and Del Piero. The club then hired Didier Deschamps and quickly won the Serie B.

However, Juventus board where a disaster!

Deschamp wanted to form a team his way but the board did not let him. Thus Deschamp renounce the team after having helped them win the Serie B.

After Deschamp left in came Raniere. In his first season Juventus finish 3rd while at the same time qualifying for the CL. In the CL the team had a fair campaign beating Madrid in both games of the group stage.

After advancing to the next round they met with Chelsea’s Hiddink. A result and game we all know.

While in the Serie A, Raniere was blamed for failing to win the league due to his defensive tactics. Such a failure led to the replacement of Raniere for Ciro Ferrara. And at the end of that season the great Pavel Nedved retired, and little was known what would happen next…

In the new season with Ciro Ferrare in charge, Juventus suffer a major setback; humiliated in the CL against Bayern and Bordeoux, and a horrible campaign in the league. So in mid season Ferrara was sacked for Zacheronni.

But with Zacheronni the defeats continued, another humiliated exit in the Europa League against Fulham and 7th place in the Serie A.

This turn in events made the whole board resign the followins season!

With a big shakedown at the club in came Andrea Agnelli (nefew of the president and founder of Juventus) and with him in the board he brough in Marotta and Pavel Nedved as sporting directors.

In their first season in charged of the club they hired Del Neri. And it was not the best of start as it also went horrible, eliminated of the Europa League group stage and 7th place for a second consecutive season in the Serie A.

Nonetheless, Agnelli stated that change will take some time.

Agnelli then decided to hire Antonio Conte as the new manager for the club.

It is worth mentioning that Antonio Conte is a coach that has roots with the team, an ex-captain of Juventus.

With Contes and the help of his Sporting Director, Juventus formed a great team. Acquiring great targets for less to little money like Pirlo as a free agent, Barzagli for less then one million and Arturo Vidal for less then 10 million.

With Conte at the helm he has been able to transmit into the team his passion and love for the team. He might not be tactical genius like Mourinho but just like Robbie at Chelsea he has been able to help lift their spirit and instill in them a passion for the game and for the club.

You wrote this yourself? Good article, and I didn't realise they appointed Nedved as a sporting director. It's good they have so many people who are Juve-people and not just inept suits who know nothing of the sport.

Woah it's kicking off here, all in all Steve i know you're a Juventus supporter too, the 2nd post was so random from you. But lmao damn it was funny, damn it would be so good to be an admin and just claim your authority, i would have you all my slaves. Infact no i wouldn't, i would have you all... wait for it...

HENRI'S SLAVES!, cause he's my god.

Oh and on topic, good write Justin. Juventus is a team what got relegated and came back, the problem is with us players wouldn't stay by a long shot if we ever sunk so low, obviously not relegation but mid table.

However i love what you said at the end and the link with Robbie. That is a good point, and maybe it could happen, if Di Matteo does a good job, and gets the F.A. Cup and makes us fight our hearts out in the league towards the end of this season, then he deserves the job no doubt about it.

Avoid trying to learn from a club who's famous for cheating

I don't get it. Why post if you have nothing constructive to say? Did you even read the brilliant article?

Mate this is my forum seriously GTFO. You don't know how to discuss anything with out pictures.

Never mind him mate. He obviously came here looking for a fight, don't give him the satisfaction of getting one. He's not worth your time anyway.

Juventus had a history before the Calciopoli scandal. I bet they won many titles without cheating. This topic focuses on the revival of Juventus not the Calciopoli.

I think for this reason alone I would not mind seeing Lampard, and Terry being involved in the team after they retire.

But if RDM continues with the job then there is one men he must bring, Zola!

RDM can continue as head coach and Zola can become his assistant manager.

That would be a nice combination.
