Fulham Broadway 17,311
Have to say I give some credence to this story - Independent doesnt make stuff upGuus wanted Ray back as Assistant
Tomo 21,751
There's no way Roman would just say you aint having the job now because you demanded Wilkins returned not ti Hiddink anyway, if this is true it's probably because Guus said he would only return if Wilkins came back, the board did not want to swallow their pride and their you have it. termninja 5,290
Could be true. Anyway, I'm glad we got Villas-Boas
ruggedknot 105
Doubt if this were true. Would Guus really reconsider moving to London with the wife based on not having one assistant coach ? Granted its a very important position , acting as a liason between the team and him but that sounds rather trivial for Guus to do a U-turn and stay put . Roman wouldn't be souring a working relationship and in many ways , a friendship with a big personality in world football such as Guus . Got him to coach Russia, filled his bank account and then sent that private jet to fly him over to London when needed most . For me what's increasingly looking like the real story is that the club under-estimated the resolve of the Turkey federation to hold onto Guus and Guus' own resolve not to break a contract which he has never done in his career . Went for him , was drawing out a lot longer than expected , then the alarm bells went off when some comments came about from the Turks about reporting the club to FIFA. Plan B - New strategy . Gamble , might pay off hugely in the long term . Villas -Boas .
Kostas 1,468
Cosign what ruggedknot said.I think the media are trying to explain Hiddink not joining by taking advantage of an incident as unrevealed and unpopular as Wilkin's dismissal. Kostas 1,468
Villas-Boas is to take a more hands-on approach to buying new players, hence his title of "manager" rather than "first-team coach", which is how Ancelotti was described. Ancelotti is new Chelsea ManagerMark included a twitter rumour in his article without even checking if it was true.Edit: For what it's worth, Scolari was announced as a manager too [link] . Every "manager" is called "manager", even if he is only a first team coach.
BlueLion. 21,491
AVB is a manager as opposed to a first team coach, like Mourinho was... a manager involved in everything from grass roots to first team football.
