  6. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is about to conquer a spot in the top ten players with the most appearances with the London outfit. If Lampard appears on the pitch against Middlesbrough this Saturday, it will be his 380th game with the Blues. This would put him on level terms with Peter Osgood, the current number ten. "It means a lot seeing I didn't get to Chelsea until I was 22," Lampard said. "I didn't imagine I would make the top 10 in this time when I first signed here. When you are up with great names in the history of Chelsea, that is something I am very proud of." The list 1 Ron Harris 795 2 Peter Bonetti 729 3 John Hollins 592 4 Dennis Wise 445 5 Steve Clarke 421 6 Kerry Dixon 420 7 Eddie McCreadie 410 8 John Bumstead 409 9 Ken Armstrong 402 10 Peter Osgood 380 11 Frank Lampard 379

  9. Chelsea and England centre-back Michael Mancienne could be handed a shock role at the heart of the Blues defence due to their injury crisis. Both captain John Terry (back), Alex (hip and thigh) and Ricardo Carvalho (knee) are all doubts for the Middlesbrough game and England Under-21 star Mancienne may be given his first Premier League start in order to shore-up the heart of the defence. But even though he is ready for the chance, Mancienne admits that the lack of opportunities has caused him to think about his future at the club. "I understand the problem at Chelsea because there are so many top-quality players. But it can get you down when you are a regular with England Under-21s but you go back to the reserve team. It's very frustrating," he said. "I am at a stage now where I need to play first-team football and feel ready to test myself at the highest level. "My game has blossomed under England under-21 coach Stuart Pearce and my education at Chelsea has been top class. "I will keep trying to catch the boss' eye but eventually you have to be honest and start thinking about what's best for your career."
  10. Chelsea are planning a surprise bid for Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli. The Mirror says Chelsea want to nick Inter Milan whizz-kid Balotelli off former manager Jose Mourinho. The striker, 18, is rated highly by new Inter boss Mourinho but is in a contract dispute with the Italian club. Chelsea missed out on Robinho, and with Didier Drogba injured, they are short of cover. Italy Under-21 star Balotelli impressed scoring seven goals in 14 Serie A games last season.
