are you also suggesting he does not run a whole lot? 😅
-
And? how does that help us? The only thing such a high valuation of a player suggests is that you may be wrong in your assessment of his qualities. Consider that we only sold Mount because he refused to sign the deal offered to him... likely because he will get a better one at United. He had plenty of opportunities to stay a Chelsea. You are making a direct correlation between sales and purchases which does not really exist. We signed Mudryk for an obscene amount without much of issue. Same for a number of other players. Sorry, but you act as if Chelsea were a club owned by its fans and run accordingly. When in fact, it's owned by billionaires and run accordingly.

Dunno why compare Lampard to a player who mostly play on the left wing, but that's just me. If Lampard was the standard to sign and keep player, well good luck fielding 11 players. 😅 yeah we keep going rounds around these points: "although it is good business" what business? the only business Chelsea is in is of playing football and acquiring silverware by winning. "substitutes and if the money is well applied" There is no relation to money received (5 mil more or less esp) to who we sign, or don't. Money is the only thing these clowns of owners have in abundance. Regarding Mount, can't wish him good luck for obvious reasons, but thank you for the silverware.

The only reason Kepa is still at the club is because he's unsellable. Chelsea will be the only big club in his career. I think he's awful, but considering the squad we are building, don't think Kepa will make or break anything.
-
In our case, the ship isn't the team, but the club. In which case, the answer is quite simple: it's not the same ship.

Scouting the market is not my job, nor is it something I like to do...sounds like too much work to be fun. I think we need more than that, esp wingers. Having a top striker is overrated, if nkunku turns out to be a good player, then he's good enough in my book. We all hope he's not a Morata in front of the the goal, but I rather have an excellent player playing #9 than a good "competent" "proper" striker playing #9, but that goes into personal pref. I'm more worried with the building of the squad than specific areas and specific names.

Yes, but so far they are definitely on the rookie side of things. Last season the likes of Mudryk played like shit, but we only remember that Mount had a poor season filled with injuries. Reece had a bad season too, same with Chilwell. Sterling was awful! It's fine to say that nothing worked last season, but then rate all players thru the same lenses. Dude we don't have a midfield to field tomorrow if we were to play. We are waiting for this fabled 21yo from fucking Brighton so we can have 11 starters worth a damn. hey if you like the status quo, then all power to you. For me, this is all crap and it's going to crap next season unless we move to signing more senior players ASAP.
-
Ah got you, my bad. The point remains tho; RM can go after Calciedo because they already have senior players in that role. We'd be relying on a 21 coming from a smaller club. Big clubs aren't allowed to do that. It just does not work. Younger players aren't, by definition, very consistent in their performances. More senior players, esp the good expensive ones give you exactly that: consistency.

Great clubs!? WTF!? That's exactly what I was getting at in the post you replied to. The step up from where they play to Chelsea is going to be huge! Didn't Cucurella look good at the same club Caicedo "fall early" is coming from? What's this obsession with a 21yo? What exactly do you think he's going to provide say in his first 2 seasons at Chelsea?
-
Definitely worrying times. The impression I get sometimes from some ppl here is that they may think we play in Liga Portugal where we can sign 10 21yo and watch them grow and mature into footballers (don't think that quite works there either). Then in the following season, replace the ones who did not pan out, rinse and repeat. That does not work in the PL. It's a brutally difficult league where even the most inapt sides run like dogs and compete, at least physically. That's why it's so fun to watch. And that's not even going into CL, publicity deals, and all that shit we have little insight into. One would never have picked Leicester for the drop and yet. Also, what's the obsession with transfer fees? What a bizarre thing to worry about. The only thing the new owners have is Monday! that should be the least of our concerns.

😆 Mount has no fanboys, only haters.
-
Did you just say that things couldn't possible get any worse? 😅
-
Only true if they don't perform and don't improve. kante is one thing (not a terrible outcome all things considered and suppose the club physios know more about his actual condition than I do), Kova understandable and at least we know we got him at this peak--although I think he might still have a few years left at his peak. Mount and Kai will be risky due to their age and the fact that they be playing for PL rivals. The whole situ would've been a lot better had they gone elsewhere. Consider the non-negligible chance that they both perform well for Arsenal and United, both of which will likely compete for more than we will, and every single signing we get this season turns out to be lackluster? Remember the praise Bakayoko got when signed, or Cururella more recently? Time will tell.
-
"not wanting to be here" could be down to them, which I think is implied above, down to us as nobody wanting to be here (preferring our rivals), or a bit of both.
-
Oldest trick in the book. Most deals in football are, or are made appear, auction-like because seller and agents would love that.
-
Let's hope it's a bluff to both value a goalie which is unsellable atm as well as hide interest. Otherwise it just shows it's a very different club these days. Worst possible scenario is that Pochettino finds out what everybody have already known for years now, t-rex kepa can't play goalie, which forces Chelsea into another desperate buy for a lot of money... likely another Kepa.
-
The selection part may have been a problem too. Not sure those players would've developed anywhere. The RB in particular was dreadful. Makes sense to do it tho... as long as it's done right/better.
-
All the expensive new signing are generational talents until they aren't. 😉 Mudryk was supposed to be a generational talent--he just not have the first touch of one, but the rest is there. 😅
-
Excellent player and left us with Silverware. Good luck, but too much. 😉 Even with his lack of finishing, I feel that he could've become a top CM if he just a bit more fitness to spare: like a bit more stamina and power to withstand games in a row. It seems he always thrived when well-rested.
-
This! Maybe Frank and Potter are OK with it, but players aren't? Never heard of this practice before tbh. Presidents, owners, usually stay clear unless something major is going on, like a big final. Perhaps not this exclusively, but consider that the established players who want out have experienced a much different dressing room "etiquette" in the past--one they may vastly prefer.
-
It is interesting that you always conveniently say PL only to avoid talking about a mere CL win where he was one of the key players. 😉 Sure let's compare 3rd and 2nd place in the PL with winning CL. Mikel was a bad player, Bertrand was a bad player, Kalou was a decent player. Mount is a lot better than either. Bertrand was sold for peanuts while Mount will go to United make millions. Mikel went nowhere near a big club again. Whatever man, folks here just hate the guy. Think he was just a player with very different characteristics. He was classic CAM who does not have a place in football these days. His prime was very short-lived too.
-
Creativity and flare whores 🙄 Deli Alli was shit because he wasn't competitive. Does not matter how creative he was if he can't compete at this level. Have you ever heard of Riquelme from Boca? watched him play plenty amazing to see wouldn't want him anywhere near Chelsea. Mount won you silverware... I find it odd fans who don't like silverware. Like they want this or that player and don't even value the players who actually got them silverware and the biggest there is.
-
oh wow Dele Alli! forgot about him, but honestly I think Mount has already done more than him 10x over. I'm actually more worried about Sterling being an Oscar: ran into the ground by City's relentlessly demanding tactics
-
I think Kai showed A LOT during that CL run. For me, Kante, Mount, and Kai were amongst the better players in that team and they beat the strongest opposition to prove. I'd say that Kai became a bargain after the CL win, but that's me. I don't disagree that their form has been subpar, but there is no guarantee that a. they will not regain and even improve as players in the future (they are fairly young) and b. that whoever arrives will do better. We keep giving the new signings excuses due to the situation at the club, but don't do the same for the established players. It's exactly the same for them... perhaps even worse as they may have seen the club much better run at some point. It's easy to declare that one would, should, must do better, but another thing entirely is that coming to fruition. I remain cautious with the new signings especially when being done by this, so far, clueless leadership.
-
Maybe. It does look like he has the tools, but we need to see him in the PL. I think Budesliga to PL can be a pretty big step. Once again, we have to agree to disagree on Mount and Kai. Performing or not can vary within a season or within weeks as can form. The same mess that affected new players also affected the established players all the same. It's a team sport after all. Sterling has not done remotely close to what Mount has done, or even Pulisic. Can he? probably, but he has not. There are variables as current wages, contract length, managers, how much the players are pushing for the move. What is not variable is their destinations and the wages being offered, and the fact that they are sough after. Football economics at this level can be very competitive and auction-like.
