Not a strong excuse, IMO. If he really has the talent and has the potential to be one of the best, then I expect better than just 3 goals and 1 assists in 21 games from him this season. His drop off in form is rather similar to Leon Bailey, who did well in one season (was 2017/18, IIRC) but went off the boil after that.

Azpi at LB is a problem but not the only problem. There's also Willian, who's supposed to be the attacking player, in front of him who practically does nothing offensively. If he's contributing offensively consistently, then the issue can be ignored for the time being (like Azpi-Hazard previously) but since it isn't, our left side is non-existent offensively. Also, people need to make up their mind over Emerson/Alonso/Azpi at LB (not necessarily pointing the finger at you). If Emerson/Alonso plays and drops a clanger, people want them out. If Azpi plays there and doesn't do anything offensively, people also want him out. The LB is definitely an area we need to strengthen but right now, we have to make do with what we have.

While Havertz has potential to be one of the best, it's worth noting that his form has tailed off badly this season. He hasn't improved on the form/performances he showed last season. If we're going to spend over 100 million on a young player, then he better at least be delivering more consistently than Havertz right now (e.g. Sancho).

Sure but Kante isn't in the XI only for defensive purposes, is he? He has been tasked to do both sides of the job and we all know his deficiencies going forward, which was a huge problem yesterday because Newcastle only bothered about defending. If it was any of the Big 6, Wolves, Sheffield United etc, then sure, play Kante. But it was Newcastle, who has been bloody parking the bus all season under Steve Bruce and they were barely able to string together any proper counter attacks. We have made it work before without Kante in the XI in the first half of the season and won games comfortably, notably against defensive sides. So, I'm not sure why Kante is needed all of a sudden in such games. Kovacic should have started instead of Kante OR Kante should have been subbed off for Batshuayi instead and go 2 up front instead of sticking with like-for-like changes/system late on.

I agree but Abraham still needs tons of chances to even score a goal. IIRC, he missed a few last weekend against Burnley, for example, and the one he scored was because of the keeper's error.

United have a much better attack? Really? For starters, they have scored less than us in the league and it's well known that United don't have a clue on how to attack if teams sit back and defend against them. Don't give them time and space and they are basically just like us against Newcastle today. They are only good when teams have a go at them, which is why their results against the big teams have been better than against the smaller teams. If they really want him, then why aren't they willing to pay the fee Sporting want now? Why are they hesitating over it?

United haven't even got any kind of winning run this season and you suddenly expect them to do so in these last few months? Their longest winning run this season is just 3, we managed at least 7. And United don't exactly have an experienced squad either. If you have been following Sky Sports a lot recently, then yeah United are 1000000% getting Bruno. Other more reliable reports are saying they don't agree with the price Sporting are asking etc. Also it seems to me like you're just panicking over clubs making signings as opposed to making sure we actually sign the right players and not just sign players for the sake of them.

The others - Spurs, Arsenal, United - are just as inconsistent as us. You say United are one winning run away from us being out of the Top 4. Equally, we're one winning run away from being pretty much guaranteed to finish in the Top 4. Equally, you just can't expect clubs to sell their best players or players to just ditch their club when they have targets to achieve this month. It's not a straightforward thing as you're making it out to be.

The point stands. If we buy this month, we're more likely to end up with rubbish players, certainly more so than in the summer. There are but the good ones just aren't obtainable this month.

No, you're not but you keep on saying we need to sign players this month when realistically, the world class/quality ones aren't available this month. But you have been persisting with the same comments and hence why I asked for names. Because if we go sign players this month, we'll most likely end up with the Zappacostas, Drinkwaters of this world again and I'm sure you won't be happy with that all.

Makes this defeat all the more stupid. We couldn't even just defend that last attack properly and take the point and run. We had to concede a stupid goal and lose in the stupidest way possible.

Putting us aside for a minute, I'm not sure how Newcastle fans put up with that kind of shit football all season. They have mostly been parking the bus and trying to pinch a goal here and there. It's so fucking turgid and boring! Their low xG and stats there are very common in their games under Steve Bruce.
