What a goal by Torres
-
I bet he is crying himself to sleep as we speak. Possibly using £100 bills to wash off the tears
-
Fernando Torres has received tons of through balls and missed eight one on one chances plenty of times failing to even connect with the ball. He gets the ball in a good position takes 3-5 touches and by the time he decides it's time to shoot the ball is already in an opposition player who is running down towards our goal. Torres at this point looks at the referee raises his arms asks for a foul Why should we adapt to a player who in 2 years has not had ONE world class performance - if Torres was actually worth all the effort he would play well despite a team that isn't playing to his strengths, instead he ends up being one of the WORST players on the pitch whenever we end up playing badly.
-
Since recovering from his injury Sturridge has outscored Torres - doesn't matter how much Torres cost and the fact he is making £180k per week, he will have to fight for his place in the team now. He has had 2 months as an automatic first choice striker. He has played 1400 minutes this season with the likes of Oscar; Hazard and Mata and scored 6 goals. That's a goal every 232 minutes. He is the most dispossessed striker in a top 4 club - loosing the ball or passing into an opposition player 5 times per match. He has the lowest passing completion out of any striker in our rivals. For comparison Sturridge has played a total of 186 minutes and scored two goals a goal every 93 minutes, he barely looses the ball(w/out at least getting a foul) due to his better dribbling; first touch and speed. His passing is not that bad, he setup Moses 3 times against United; Hazard once against Donetsk. Consider the amount of time and the amount of excuses Torres has been given - to give Sturridge even a few starts in a row doesn't even come close to the amount of chances Torres has had. Than in the winter we will surely sign another forward, until than we should be playing the striker who is not afraid of the opposition goal. Why write off Sturridge without even giving him a run of a few games up top at our club. Fact is there is issues with Sturridge that need to be addressed but it would be fair if he was given a few starts right now to prove himself. Lets see if his "selfish" attitude would really be such a hindrance to the team or whether he is only perceived as such because of the immense pressure to prove himself in a limited amount of time he is given. Sure he made three awful decisions during the United game, but consider the fact that Nando looses the ball at least 5 times per game and what is worse loosing the ball 5 times a game without even getting into a position to influence play or taking a shot ? Fact is that I'd be having similar comments right now about Lukaku right now if he was our second choice striker and Sturridge was out on loan. I just don't see how either Lukaku or Sturridge can do any worse at the moment.

The only thing Torres is better than Sturridge currently is loosing the ball and failing to shoot
-
Good display tonight considering how the rest of the squad played.
-
If I see him starting midweek I'm gonna chuck something at the television
-
Sturridge actually setup 3 chances for Moses last night, the one on one chance; he set him with a backheel in a situation similar to Hazard's one on one which Sturridge setup coming on as a sub a week ago; the third one was a cut back from the right wing which left Moses alone a few meters from the goal but his shot I think went straight at the keeper.
-
He played a lot better after his goal, but he was not good before scoring. Moses took a lot of correct decisions even though he fluffed a bunch of chances, something which Sturridge needs to work on but I liked how Moses; Danny and Hazard combined it looked like those three had great understanding on the field. I hope the reason he was making these rush decisions is due to the hunger to get on the scoresheet - and hopefully he gets another chance up top soon so we have more than one game to base an opinion upon. If it's the case of really wanting to get that goal, hopefully when gets a run and is scoring regularly he won't be taking such bad decision especially from the by line with players better positioned and available inside the box. I don't really begrudge any shoots when he is facing the goal centrally but those two shots from the byline he made were extremely poor decision making.
-
Depends before his goal Sturridge was actually worse than Torres(of this season), and I personally rate Sturridge higher than Fernando at the moment. After the goal he was good enough. I feel if he has a full match where he performs like he did after his goal the option would be easy. Seems to have a pretty good understanding with Moses and Hazard; can't say the same about Mata those two seem on two different frequencies(at least tonight). Anyhow even thought I support Sturridge - this is surely not a game which is proof that he is better than Torres leading our attack. Obviously I will maintain the opinion that if he is given as much chances as Torres has been given in his time at CFC we will get more out of Daniel than Torres.
-
I thought he had a pretty bad before his goal after the goal I saw the qualities I've always noticed in Sturridge. Needed to do a lot better than he did tonight - hopefully next chance he gets to play up top from the start he will play the way he did after he scored otherwise no chance he will make it.
-
We hit the bar twice tonight and missed a bucket load of chances - only the amount of time we played is worrying for Mata especially.
-
HAZARD made that goal!
-
Understatement of the year Look at that pass to Moses pure quality - but most of the time horrible decisions
-
Finally Sturridge is starting to play well - was going to be one on one against the keeper and that should have been a red card.
-
About time Sturridge.... still poor match by him
-
Sturridge very poor tonight,
-
OMFG Penalty in 94th Minute!
-
Lindegaard must have magnets in his gloves
-
Too many chances missed tonight, cmon !
-
Not the best game for Piazon - Hazard Time!
-
of all the people to be sprinting into the box it had to be Mikel
-
.... Luiz Every goal so far gifted to United Don't think they have had a clear cut chance that wasn't a fuck up by one of our players.

You guys should rewatch one of our matches, and focus on Torres inside the box while we have the ball on the edge of the box or on the flank. Torres barely moves, he is usually standing behind a bunch of defenders without trying to make himself available or get in front of his marker in case there is a pass or cross coming in. His movement in the box during open play is appalling because it's completely nonexistent. It's a far cry from Drogba who would always try to make himself a good option inside the box whether there is a cross coming in or a pass - he would use his physique to shield himself from his marker and allow the passer to have a clear channel to find him. Torres doesn't have Drogba's physique so he should always be on the move inside the box, but instead he is the most static player we have. There are also majority of times where he is nowhere to be found, Ramires sometimes takes up forward positions with his runs while Torres is escaping his markers by standing on the opposite flank of our attack without trying to run into the box.

Yes, it's not like Oscar; Mata or Hazard have much chance to get on the end of a cross, unless it's along the ground.
