Give Sturridge a chance until the winter transfer window, and based on his performances we can decide if we need a new striker. Of course if we end up signing Neymar; Cavani or Falcao you won't hear me complaining.
I'd honestly take Torres ahead of Pato at the moment - players like him are a huge risk. We have all seen Kaka post injury failing to break into Real's first eleven - same would happen to Pato his physical traits have been severely hampered by his recurring injuries.
I didn't know Cavani but Falcao had just scored 34 goals in 43 appearances with Porto and continued to score in the season when we signed Torres it's not like he was unknown player at the time. Hell he was pretty well known even before signing for Porto
Hazard and Mata were once again our best players up top, but comedy defending at the start, lack of typical striker up top to give United something to think about and the worse referring performance since Ovbredo cost us dearly
It's not a new concern for Torres it's a new concern for us fans. The Real Fernando Torres is not good enough for a starter at this club and it's not only because of his goal scoring form I've underlined the fact that with the attacking players we have - we can't afford a forward who cheaply gives the opposition possession. I was simply talking about your passing; key passing statistics and saying that he might provide key passes but he also wastes possession which leads to opportunities for opponents to counter attack.
Torres also gave away the ball the most this season his pass accuracy is 71%(lowest out of all strikers I have statistics about), he passes to an opposition player 2.8 times a match a stat which is higher than Falcao(1.8); RvP(1.4); Dzeko(0.9); Defoe(1.4); only striker I have statistics about who gives away possesion through bad passing more often in Ba(2.9) but his passing accuracy is 79%. At the same time Torres gets dispossessed 3.1 times per match compared to Falcao(1.2); Ba(2.3); RvP(2); Dzeko(0.7); Defoe(1.4); So even holding up the ball and linking up play is a major problem for Torres. I'd honestly take any of the above mentioned players ahead of him except Defoe - who I just don't rate that highly(personal preference) apart from current finishing ability. Lets not even mention the amount of times he is unable to shoot due to bad first touch; running into opposition defenders; or simply hesitating for far too much. He takes 2.1 shots per match and has the chance to be shooting far more often - but seems afraid to do so.
At the time it was between Neymar; Torres and Aguerro. Falcao was not really linked with us even though I though he would also be a better option - Neymar was my favorite out of the three players because of his creativity.
I would have taken Falcao ahead of Torres at the time, but at the time I didn't want us to sign a striker anyway wasn't really the issue with the squad.
