There are two sides to this argument. Yes, your parents may have been born in an African country which is where their patriotism stems from but if I was born in England or France or wherever else that is my country of origin. My roots may be African but my nationality is what I would want to represent. For example, I was born and raised in Canada, however my parents were born in England and Barbados. This argument says instead of playing in the place I was born I should play for one of the countries of my parents. Now I do have 2 Canadian U23 to my name and never played for the senior men's side but that doesn't negate the fact that I was still very proud to represent the country I was born in.
