Ray Wilkins picks his Chelsea team of the decade

Willian, ha. -
This is actually his third semi-final in four seasons (remember 2012), but yes, it's two semis in a row and the matter in which he is getting knocked out of both speaks volumes. Simeone owned Mourinho last year and we all know what happened this year, but the point I was trying to make is that unlike Mourinho, Pep actually got spanked pretty badly. After winning in 2013 with Heynckess and then getting Pep shortly after it looked as though Bayern were going to dominate Europe, especially considering the signings they made and the form they were in, but no, leave it to Pep to get embarrassed by Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate and then get thrashed by Barcelona the following season in pretty much the same style. Pep was brought to Bayern precisely because the Germans wanted to dominate against such direct rivals, and in that regard, he and Bayern have failed miserably. Pep is too predictable and I'm glad we have Mourinho and not him at Chelsea.

Hazard Terry Matic

And this is why Mourinho will always be miles ahead of Pep, we should be grateful our manager isn't as tactically inept. Pep is one of the most overrated managers period. Good to see he is once again found out.

2014/15 Premier League Champions - The Thread to Celebrate
HRiver replied to Barbara's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
No Chelsea fan should complain after today. Yes, playing defensively against Crystal Palace at home and winning thanks to a penalty in a title deciding game doesn't sound so appealing, but let's not forget that we dominated from day one. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that we'd win the title by a thirteen point difference. Other than being knocked out in the Champions League this was nothing short of a fantastic season. And I feel as though people aren't giving Mourinho enough credit - if in 2010 we won thanks to the amount of goals scored and Ancelotti's offensive style, this time we won because when it comes to motivation this guy truly is one of a kind. I recall him saying "No more third" during the Player of the Year awards last season, people were thinking he was being grumpy but he was actually making a point. And then as soon as he handed Hazard the award, he said something along the lines of "I expect bigger things from you next season, kid". And now look at the result. -
Poor game, should have scored more, but couldn't care less at this point. Thought the atmosphere was brilliant regardless, or so it seemed from the TV at least. I could listen to that roar after the final whistle over and over again.
-
No, he missed one in the Champions League.
-
Deserves it, has been sublime all season. In his first two seasons here he more or less underperformed, but not in this one. Just a really good season all around.
-
He asked for it.
-
Wait, wait... so if we win our next two games, does that mean Liverpool will give us a guard of honour?
-
I'm not content with his strategy for this game either, even if this approach is understandable at this stage of the season. We somehow pulled it off but let's not forget that a lot of luck was involved. The way we handle big games hasn't changed much in the last 2-3 years and I seriously hope things will change from next season.
-
I was actually referring to the home game and not the return leg. Same tactics, same result.
-
This was basically like a repeat of Barcelona 2012, pretty much the same game plan and we got the job done both times. Splendid finish from Hazard, this is no doubt his best season yet.
-
Mourinho sold Mata because he believed Oscar was going to be his no.10, for some reason. How he believed that and what he saw in him I guess we'll never know.
-
Has thirty minutes to win the game, brings on Oscar. Genius.
-
I would like to know which Oscar you're watching since Chelsea's Oscar is far from being a Ferrari, in fact even Willian isn't that type of player. They both excel at slowing down the tempo and mostly end up killing any chances we may have for a possible counter-attack. At least Willian tries to produce something when he has the ball at his feet, Oscar is nothing more than a Dirk Kuyt kind of player (in fact Kuyt was a much more hard worker) The likes of Hazard and the likes of Oscar just don't match, you can't expect to have real team chemistry this way. And also so far I've no idea what the purpose of Cuadrado in this team is.
-
Can't help but feel that reality has hit Abramovich real hard in the face this time around, he knows this team isn't likely to play the football he dreams of at this point. Abramovich wants to win and he wants to win well, this is the same frustrating and predictable Chelsea we've been witnessing for years. Can't see Mourinho making drastic changes to his approach + this team is just really not that good. As someone said in another thread winning the league title with this team would be a massive success, hopefully that will attract some players for next season.
-
Wut, didn't our fans boo him throughout the game? He had every right to celebrate
-
Wow, I can't believe some of the people here are seriously blaming the refs for this one.
-
Who needs Lampard when you have Ivanovic
-
Well you can't really blame him can you. I hear people and even him himself say how he dreams to one day get his hands on the Ballon d'or but how likely is it that he will ever achieve that here. Which makes me sad because he has so much potential.
-
Well that was one pathetic offensive display, I don't think I've ever seen this team look so clueless at home, not this season at least. Must be so frustrating for the likes of Hazard when he barely touched the ball six times. But I'll take a point.
-
One of our best away performances yet. Premier League referees are literally the worst.
-
Mourinho's tactics were wrong today, period.
-
Just not that good. I feel as though Mourinho respects Man United too much (or just our rivals in general). Should've killed them, but he opted for one of those scrappy 0-1 away wins instead. United definitely didn't deserve that draw, but I'm not sure we deserved the win either.
