There are two sides to this fashion debate. Jose is in a situation no other manager is in or has been in. Carlo, Pep aren't comparable. From Jose's point of view, image USED to be important. He dressed in suits and put emphasis on fashion. However, at that point in his life he was still selling Mourinho to the world. He's proven himself now, he knows that regardless of what he wears he will be respected the same. He isn't looking for anyone's approval anymore. If he wants to wear track suits, I don't think it matters for his sake. But the other side, which I don't think any other manager fits into is that Jose is also the face of Chelsea. Chelsea is a business and Roman's aim is to make Chelsea a global brand and Jose is one of the biggest faces of the Chelsea brand. Jose is a one of a kind manager, who has enough star power to be the face of the club, no other manager has that pull. So from a strictly business point of view he should care about his image, because it's a big part of Chelsea's image. Jose doesn't need to sell himself anymore, but now he's partly responsible for selling Chelsea the brand. When I think of faces of the club, I think of: Real - Ronaldo Barca - Messi United - Rooney Arsenal - Ozil/Wenger/...no clear star imo City - Toure/Aguero Liverpool - Suarez/Gerrard Chelsea - Jose Mourinho

Classy children I reckon. Hence, Jose the classy individual paid for some classy meals, now the small school has been transformed into a classy school.

Torres always talks the talk. He can talk with the best of them. Dude had Mata right next to him for two seasons who is no worse than Cesc in terms to creativity and that final key pass and he couldn't score then. Won't change much now.
-
I don't agree with that. If you're playing possession and can only build up from the back then you'll get countered pretty badly by opposition's high press. But if they pass quick and direct then those guys would actually destroy a high press and create loads of chances because they have the ability to make the quick forward pass and bypass the high press. The ball can outrun any man, unless you're Spain and all you do is make 5 yard passes, but thankfully we won't ever go down that road at Chelsea. The real problem might be on defence when they're the ones asked to press and recover the ball. Only Matic is capable of performing that role on a consistent basis.

What are the PL fixtures after CL match days looking like? Do we know that yet?
-
Instead of salivating at the prospect of Costa AND Lukaku we're now getting defensive because it seems like it's Costa OR Lukaku. But I have to say that's Lukaku's fault. The way he's been talking in the media is the reason why people are getting critical because he wants to be first choice so if that's what he wants then he has to play like one and will be compared to one. If he doesn't talk, I guarantee no one talks shit about Lukaku because there is no one that wouldn't be happy with him as second choice.
-
I don't think it's a surprise for anyone, he's like Torres. He needs space so he can open his legs. But I wouldn't put a lot of blame on him today, most lone strikers would have had trouble today when the middle of the pitch was so congested. Lukaku just needs to bring himself down to earth and work hard next year as the 2nd choice striker. At worst he'll always be useful when playing purely on counters or when chasing a game and you need more bodies up front.

Both Brazil CBs are so exposed compared to how much we protect our CBs. Their fullbacks seem to have no leash around them. Oftentimes Silva or Luiz has to cover the flanks leaving their partner alone in the center. <br /> If Gustavo wasn't so diligent in dropping back, they would have conceded a lot more.
-
That was an amazing performance by Oscar. One of the most complete performances I've seen in a long time.
-
I think Omeruo and Zouma will be asked to fight it out amongst themselves during preseason for the 4th CB spot and the loser goes on loan. Feel Kenneth might win it before that if he has a good world-cup.
-
Who do you replace him with if you do decide to sell? I can understand relegating him to a squad role but he's versatile and has some key attributes that can benefit any team. Unless you can get a better replacement with similar attributes, we shouldn't sell.
-
There is no way Real lets go of Modric after the season he just had.
-
If Jose actually sees him as a key player, I doubt he let's him leave even if it's a mouthwatering offer for the fans.
-
It just doesn't make sense that he got offered 160k. I could understand a high wage packet if Southampton accepted 10 bids and United wanted to make sure he chose them, but it's widely reported that United are the only one that bid so he doesn't really have a choice but sign for United or stay at Soton. He'll obviously ask for higher wages than what he'll get at Southampton but no way does he have any leverage to request 4-5 times of Soton's offer. I believe that 160k to be total bullshit. 100k is a lot more believable.
-
No way he got paid 160k/w. I can understand 100k but 160 is hard to believe.
-
We have a lot of promising CBs. Probably all at similar development levels too. That said, Zouma is probably the one with the highest ceiling with Omeruo second and Kalas a close third imo.
-
Why did Davis punch that English dude? Didn't know some were taking it so seriously.
-
Why didn't Lukaku give himself a chance to beat out Torres and Ba? Why ask for a loan? Can't get a chance if you leave.
-
No one has said they don't want him here as 2nd choice. He seems to demand first choice place at Chelsea. That's what people are arguing about. Almost everyone has been salivating at having Costa and Lukaku. Except Lukaku, who comes with that statement after he learns Costa is close to signing. Who asks for a loan after we sign a 33 year old Eto'o.
-
But can you confirm that if he hadn't asked for a loan move, he still wouldn't have gotten a chance? I'd say he's the one who didn't give Jose a chance but rather asked out cause he wanted to be first choice. I excused him last season because of the world cup so I understood to an extent but if he's still not willing to fight and instead only values playing time even now, then he'll probably leave.
-
He talks like he's already world class. Misquoted or not, even the updated correct translation doesn't sit right with me. And people aren't going overboard just cause of the recent quotes, it's a culminating effect cause he's been mouthing off for a year now. I loved Lukaku, he claimed he was a die hard Chelsea fan and wanted nothing more than to play for Chelsea, but I'm losing interest in him because he comes off as a fake fan. Courtois talks a lot but I give him his due leash because he's proven he's world class, he's earned the right to be arrogant, Lukaku hasn't yet. People keep using 21 as an excuse now, but he's been a professional for 5 years now, that's no excuse anymore. Especially when he conducts himself in such a mature manner in most of his interviews.
-
There's more than adjustment. Cesc might not just walk in and play like his Arsenal days but it'll be must faster than Rakitic. Furthermore, Cesc has played in the biggest matches and won the biggest trophies. He's a winner now, which he wasn't at Arsenal. He might have lost something but he's gained that winning mentality as well. He can be a leader out there which Rakitic can't.
-
While Rakitic is a great player. It would be hard for him to just show up and do the business in the midfield in the PL. Jose had made it clear that we are looking to win it next year so I completely agree with Cesc, proven, leader, and still a great player.
