Andre Villas-Boas has left £20million striker Romelu Lukaku out of Chelsea's Champions League squad. Lukaku, 18, has been sacrificed by Villas-Boas because Chelsea did not have enough 'homegrown' players to maximise their 25-man squad. Michael Essien has also been omitted because of his long-term knee injury and so has Ryan Bertrand, an English victim of spending so long on loan at different clubs. Frank Lampard, Daniel Sturridge, Ross Turnbull and Ashley Cole make up the four 'association trained' places. Teenagers Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah can both play because they qualify on the 'B List'. Bertrand's omission makes a mockery of the homegrown rule. He is English born but fails to meet the criteria because he was not registered at Chelsea for three years between the ages of 15 and 21. Read more: http://www.dailymail...l#ixzz1Wofbyxpq
