Find it funny typical for the media to focus on his exclusion against Swansea while completely ignoring the supreme effort it takes to be part of a 10 man side for 73 minutes against PL opposition just 3 days earlier. Maybe, just maybe, AVB got it right against Swansea and it was precisely the rest at the weekend that enabled Frank to play the way he did at Valencia? You won't hear/read a word about it. On his first half performance, can't believe it's being described as "poor". LCM doesn't entail attacking all the time, he kept their creative midfielders quiet and it was clearly a part of the plan. But scapegoating him has become a favourite passtime so can't pretend it's entirely surprising.

Cech, Lamps and Sideshow Dave had great games. Went with Lamps for sentimental value

People overrate his attacking abilities, I think. Mindlessly wandering up the pitch really quick in a straight line doesn't constitute ''good attacking''. His crossing is atrocious, is prone to giving the ball away very high up the pitch and is even worse at tracking back after surrendering possession. I even read someone mentioning he has attacking 'flair', which made me laugh my head off. I realize he's often one of the favourite scapegoats on this forum when things don't go our way, but to me he's a decent squad player not particulary adept at either of the jobs you'd expect of a fullback.

Haven't read the entire thread, but judging from the last few pages, it seems Lampard has been getting stick again. Not sure if those people noticed that he was doing a job on Ever Banega in the first half - and deserves some credit for keeping their best player (imo) relatively quiet. Post HT there's been the immaculately weighted pass to Ramires, the pass for Torres and the goal of course. But evidently, the Lampard bashing ship had sailed by then. As I post this, he's come off. Good game, Lamps.

AVB must have delivered a rousing talk at HT, we've been on fire after the break.
