Carlo was right not to play him most of this season to be honest. I can see why he made that decision. It's too soon to throw him into such a situation where every mistake would be magnified, over-analysed and judged. The protection of that has allowed Carlo to bring him into a game such as this and allow him 60 odd minutes. A decision to play him versus United would've been ill-judged as he's never played in such a high-tense game and such. Who knows, maybe versus Everton he'll also feature. I hope that's Carlo's logic anyway. If so, it shows he has though long term after all. This why I agree with warnie_666 though, he needs a loan spell to grow into the pace of the Premier League. A mid-table club is a very good place to start.

He's more likely to play and gain experience with a newly promoted team than an already established one. When Connor Clifford went to Plymouth, he made an immediate impact and helped their team who were facing relegation before even January! They raved a lot about him saving their season at that time. Unfortunately they had their transfer embargo put on so he couldn't go back, but it certainly helped him. Just imagine Neill Warnock managing Josh McEachran..

Still think 1 loan spell at Bolton would be exceptional for his development. Maybe even at one of the promoted teams..

Yeah. I'd liken Josh to Gerrard in a sense of sitting in the middle supplying the killer balls. Of course Gerrard has a much better attacking instinct, which he's never quite exploited, but Josh is certainly more of a Gerrard & Lampard.

Manchester United can't talk, the amount of wasteful signings they've made with big money goes beyond ours. Funny how they all forget Berbatov's price tag & how they wanted him sold in his first season, but look at him now, still the league's top scorer. Yeah I know what you mean, but like you said, in the Hammers' game he was completely different. So we know he's still sharp & deadly & hungry and all this. It's just a matter of player psychology. His state of mind will only change once this season is over. He, more than anyone, knows this entire season has been awful for him. Roy Hodgson, the owners & the transfer all took it's toll on him. He needs a long term break and pre-season he must focus on gelling with the squad.

A bit dramatic Max? He was lively today. Growing with each performance, obviously not operating at that level we know he can, but I still think he's still bonding and gelling with the squad. We thought his first would trigger a wave, but fixtures haven't been easy for him since then. Simply too early to make him out to be an awful buy.

I don't think so, not yet anyway. He gets crowded out too much. Not saying he can't easily get himself out of those situations, but I think it's too early for that push. I like how he was today, he wasn't in the holding role but he was just in and around the centre of the pitch. His passing ability is amazing, which is why sitting in the middle can work for him.
