I did make a post a week or so before we signed Lukaku stating this signing would ultimately get Tuchel sacked. Looking how things unfolded, prioritizing Lukaku over Tchouameni and settling for Saul on loan, I was kind of right. Tuchel's bizarre thought process into thinking Jorginho, Kovacic, and Kante didn't needed to be improved on, will forever mystify me.

I'd like to worry about rejuvenating the midfield first. Otherwise, what's the point?

The issue is that we have an abundance of midfielders that offer the same thing in Kante, Kovacic, Ruben, and Zakaria. All of which are ball carriers that offer nothing in the final third in terms of creativity or goal threat. I'd keep Kova and Ruben as squad players next season, but we genuinely need two massive upgrades in the summer, arguably three. A profile that offers creativity and one that offers defensive cover is a must.
