  1. Exclusive: Real Madrid turn attention to signing Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-real-madrid-turn-attention-to-signing-aston-villas-jhon-duran/ Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Aston Villa man-of-the-moment Jhon Duran, sources have told Football Insider. Real’s recruitment team have been wowed by the 20-year-old Colombia international’s stunning start to the season at Villa. The Spanish giants have a “concrete” interest in Duran ahead of the January transfer window and will continue to monitor his situation. The youngster hit the headlines across Europe with a stunning 79th-minute lob over Manuel Neuer to secure a shock 1-0 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. Duran has scored a goal every 82.78 minutes in the Premier League since joining from MLS side Chicago Fire back in January 2023, eclipsing Erling Haaland’s minutes-per-goal ratio of 85 minutes. Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran a target for Real Madrid He has taken his game to new heights with six goals in just 297 minutes across nine appearances in all competitions for Villa so far this season, with all those strikes coming as a substitute. Emery’s side paid £14.75million plus a potential £3.3million in bonuses to Chicago Fire for Duran in January of last year, tying him down until July 2028. Villa are fifth in the Premier League with four wins, one draw, and one defeat in their opening six Premier League games. Meanwhile, by their incredibly high standards, it’s been an underwhelming start to the season for Real, already three points behind rivals Barcelona at the summit in the race for the La Liga title. They’ve struggled on the continent as well, falling to defeat in their trip to French side Lille, courtesy of a Jonathan David penalty just before half-time. In other news, Aston Villa are working on January signing in one position – Ex-Villa scout.
  2. Chelsea complete Man City raid as new academy technical director signing Glenn van der Kraan confirmed The latest Chelsea news as the club are continuing the restructure of the academy with the hope of future talent being able to make their way into the first team. https://www.football.london/Chelsea-fc/news/Chelsea-complete-man-city-raid-30076014 Chelsea have announced that Glenn van der Kraan has joined the club as academy technical director, completing a move from Premier League rivals Manchester City. The Dutchman had been with City since 2020, where he held the title of head of coaching for the Under-9s to the Under 14s. During his time at the Etihad Stadium he worked with Joe Shield who moved to Chelsea as co-director of recruitment and talent in January 2023, and was tasked with restructuring the club’s academy. Van der Kraan’s appointment was reported by Training Ground Guru back in July, but has now been confirmed by the club. It has been confirmed that he will lead the youth development programme alongside Jake Francis, who has taken up a new role as the academy’s football operations director. Chelsea will help the restructure of the academy will help bring youth prospects into the first team in future years. The Blues currently have academy graduates Levi Colwill and Reece James as part of the first team squad. In a statement on the club’s website sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley gave their reaction to the appointment. “We are very pleased to make this announcement as Glenn brings his vast experience and track record for success in youth development into his new position at Chelsea,” they said. “Alongside the vital continuity and experience that Jack brings to his new role, we are excited about this new leadership and the potential within the academy moving forward. The academy is fundamental to the plan for the future of the club, with Glenn and Jack now in place to steer the operation alongside the immense expertise already within the academy building at Cobham.”
  3. Omorodion, Duran, Osimhen - Six transfer targets Chelsea didn't sign and how they're doing now Chelsea signed plenty of players during the summer transfer window, but Enzo Maresca was given just one new striker https://www.football.london/Chelsea-fc/transfer-news/omorodion-duran-osimhen-six-transfer-30069542 Chelsea were heavily linked with numerous big names during the summer transfer window – but not all of them penned deals at Stamford Bridge. With Enzo Maresca eager to bolster his squad, the Blues welcomed 11 new faces to Cobham training ground; three of which were sent back out on loan. Out of the eight who remained in west London, only one was a striker – Marc Guiu, who was prised from Barcelona for just £5m. Despite the 18-year-old's impressive performances in pre-season, Chelsea were still thought to be in the market for a new frontman up until the eleventh hour. Then, on deadline day, the Blues wrapped up a deal for Jadon Sancho, ditching any plan of getting their hands on a striker. So, with that being said, football.london has looked at the six strikers Chelsea nearly signed but didn't in the summer transfer window. Samu Omorodion Chelsea were offered to sign Joao Felix by Jorge Mendes after a deal for Samu Omorodion collapsed, football.london understands. The 20-year-old striker, who once looked destined to join the Blues, went on to join Porto instead, where he's enjoyed an excellent vein of form. Omorodion has featured six times for the Portuguese giants this season, scoring seven goals – four in the Primeira Liga and three in the Europa League. While Chelsea raised eyebrows by pursuing the Spain Under-21 international, the club's interest has been vindicated by his statement performance against Manchester United on Thursday night. READ MORE: Arsenal given Thomas Partey transfer deadline as Mikel Arteta makes true feelings clear READ MORE: Enzo Maresca sends forgotten Chelsea star clear transfer message as 'agreement' revealed Jhon Duran Jhon Duran was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea for some time before his recent rise to superstardom, but the club never bit the bullet. According to The Telegraph in January 2024, the Blues were considering a bid for the 20-year-old striker after Aston Villa rejected an enquiry from West Ham. Then, in the summer, football.london understood that Chelsea cooled their interest in Duran. It's believed that the two clubs were in talks, but the Colombian's wage demands were thought to be 'too high' and there were some concerns over his attitude. Victor Osimhen football.london understands that Chelsea submitted a bid for Victor Osimhen on the day before the summer transfer window deadline. It's believed that the Blues offered to sign the 25-year-old on a season-long loan, which included an obligation-to-buy clause. Despite the west Londoners' best efforts, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart couldn't wrap up a deal for the Nigeria international. football.london understands that Al-Ahli were in talks with Osimhen, with the Saudi Pro League club thought to have presented him an 'extortionate salary'. Instead, he decided to join Galatasaray on loan from Napoli for the remainder of the season. The Italian club confirmed that they reached an agreement with Osimhen to retain the option to extend his contract until June 2027. A new deal would also reputedly reduce his release clause to €75m (£63m) from €130m (£110m) – which is almost in line with the €80m (£67m) offer from Al Ahli that Napoli reportedly accepted. Osimhen has hit the ground running in Turkey, scoring two and setting up four in his first four games. Jonathan David football.london understands that Chelsea opened talks with Jonathan David's representatives over a possible move to Stamford Bridge in June. It's believed that the 24-year-old striker was eager to leave Lille after four years at the club. David was 'strongly considered' and negotiations took place, but a deal failed to materialise. The Canada international is now also enjoying a brilliant vein of form, scoring eight goals in his last 12 games. Sehrou Guirassy Sehrou Guirassy was mooted a potential target for many clubs in Europe after helping Stuttgart finish second in the Bundesliga and claim Champions League qualification. Despite missing a chunk of the campaign while away at the Africa Cup of Nations, the 28-year-old still managed to score 28 goals in 28 games in the German top-flight. He joined Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal in the summer. Unsurprisingly, Guirassy has also done well this term, netting six in his first five appearances. Ivan Toney After failing to find a new club in Europe, Ivan Toney joined Al-Ahli. Brentford accepted a bid worth around £40m for the 28-year-old late into the summer transfer window. Toney was, in fact, one of several players that Chelsea considered signing ahead of deadline day, football.london understands. The England international was viewed as a much cheaper and more attainable alternative to Osimhen, who Chelsea had previously held talks about. He has played six games for his new club so far, netting two goals and laying on one assist.
  4. €14m Chelsea transfer can make major step forward next week after today’s breaking news https://Chelsea.news/2024/10/e14m-Chelsea-transfer-can-make-major-step-forward-next-week-after-todays-breaking-news/ Chelsea are on a roll. They’re scoring goals, winning games and doing well. That means there’s plenty of praise to go around – we’ve seen Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer and various other players given their moment in the sun at different times in the last few weeks. Last night it looked to be Renato Veiga’s turn. The left back scored the opening goal of the 4-2 win over Gent which brought things into focus, but the praise he got was really more of a holistic appreciation for his progress since joining the club than just for a good game and a good header last night. Today we hear the news that he’s been called up to the senior Portugal squad. That’s his second callup to the senior squad, having also attended the camp in September. Veiga didn’t get on the pitch in either of those two games, and will be hoping to go one better this time around. A major chance to continue upwards trajectory It would be a just reward for a good start to the season. As recently as last season he would have felt pretty distance from the senior team, playing at Basel without much hype. But as we see so often, a move to a top team brings you into the spotlight, and now Roberto Martinez seems to be paying more and more attention. This break gives him a nice opportunity to bed in further with the national team, and also potentially to make his full debut. The same versatility that is helping him get regular appearances for us should also help his chances of minutes for the national team. The €14m we paid is starting to look like a bargain, and will look even better once he’s got a full cap from his country.
  5. Why Renato Veiga is becoming that Chelsea rarity – a bargain buy https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5817021/2024/10/04/renato-veiga-Chelsea-bargain/ The words ‘Chelsea’ and ‘bargain signing’ have rarely been used together in the mainstream since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake consortium bought the club in May 2022. When you have spent well over £1billion ($1.3bn) on new players in just over two years, praise for doing good business can be in rather short supply, particularly without any silverware or Champions League football to show for it. But look beyond some of the more mean-spirited hyperbole and there have been some transfers delivering great value for money. The first name on everyone’s lips will be Cole Palmer’s switch from Manchester City for £40million (plus £2.5m in add-ons), but Malo Gusto (£26.3m plus add-ons), Nicolas Jackson (£29.5m) and Noni Madueke (£28.5m) are all impressive purchases from 2023. All four are currently first-choice players under head coach Enzo Maresca. If Jadon Sancho — who joined on a season-long loan on deadline day in August from Manchester United with an obligation to buy next year worth £20m to £25m — continues his fine start to life at Stamford Bridge, then he will be another. But it is someone with a much lower profile who is also beginning to become a firm favourite with the crowd and the coaching staff. Renato Veiga has not quite established himself as a member of Maresca’s ‘A team’ just yet, but he has become the Italian’s most surprising trusted squad player. Veiga’s arrival barely caused a stir when Chelsea acquired the Portugal Under-21 international (who was called up to Portugal’s senior squad on Friday) from FC Basel for just £11.8m in July. He is one of the consortium’s cheapest buys, coming in at more than £100m less than the club record fee paid out for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo (£115m). But after 10 games in all competitions, Veiga has made just as many appearances for Chelsea (8) as Caicedo has. Naturally, the latter has been picked more in the most important of them — the Premier League — but the fact Veiga has been left unused in just two fixtures so far is noteworthy in itself. More significant though is the minutes tally. As this table using figures compiled by Transfermarkt shows, Veiga (487) has accrued the eighth-highest amount of game time on the pitch from all the players at Maresca’s disposal. He is ahead of some big names including Pedro Neto (440), Christopher Nkunku (421) and Joao Felix (274), who do not even make the top 10. Granted, the majority of his minutes have come in starts against minor opposition in Servette (twice), Barrow and Thursday night’s opponents Gent, but Maresca is not shy to use him off the bench in the Premier League. And when Enzo Fernandez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (both unwell) and Romeo Lavia (hamstring) were all unavailable to face Bournemouth in the 1-0 league victory last month, Veiga played the full 90 in central midfield. Chelsea made a move for Veiga because they like his adaptability. He is taller and a lot cheaper than Riccardo Calafiori, a player they were linked with during the close season but who moved to rivals Arsenal for up to £42m. For the most part, he has operated on the left side of defence and is a major reason why England international Ben Chilwell is barely seeing any action. Against a Gent side that sat very deep and relied on the counter-attack, he got forward a lot more and was rewarded with his first Chelsea goal, heading home Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross smartly into the corner. Maresca confirmed to The Athletic afterwards that it was a deliberate ploy to push him up the pitch and could barely stop smiling as he explained why he is using Veiga so much. Maresca said: “He is tall, he is big. Tonight he played like an attacking midfielder, in the pocket for the first time of the season for us. He did very well. You never imagine Renato arriving in the box and scoring from the other side. That means he is doing well. “When we needed him as a holding midfielder against Bournemouth, he was there. The other day against Brighton as a full-back. He is versatile.” A few of the match statistics compiled by Opta provide an indication of what a good all-round game he had in Thursday’s 4-2 victory. No Chelsea player made more passes into the final third (14) and one of the main beneficiaries was Mudryk, who played ahead of him on the left flank. Veiga also had the most defensive actions (7), tied for most duels won (6) and the best expected assists (xA) output of any player in the game (0.33). Only Mudryk, Joao Felix and Neto had more touches (from both teams) than his five in the opposition penalty area. It is early days, but what makes Veiga’s story such an enjoyable one is that no one is more pleasantly surprised than he is about how well things are going. When he gave his first interview to the media during the pre-season tour of the USA, he was asked by The Athletic whether he knew what the club’s plan for him was, whether he was bought to help Chelsea this season or was being sent on loan to develop. “We will see at the end of pre-season or after the market closes (what happens),” he replied. “I feel the trust from the manager and my colleagues. I just want to do my best and we will see.” Veiga went on to explain that he could not turn a transfer to Chelsea down because he sees them as ‘the biggest club in England’ and emphasised just how happy he is to be there. Anyone who saw him celebrate Nkunku’s late winner at Bournemouth (where he was booked for jumping in with the away fans to celebrate) or his goal versus Gent can see that. The most encouraging thing for Chelsea and Veiga is this is just the beginning and there should be a lot more to come. And as that happens, more and more people will begin to recognise that Chelsea have got themselves a bit of a steal.
  6. Fabrizio Romano's Daily Briefing https://thedailybriefing.io/p/excl-juventus-looking-for-january Milan sounded out Samu Aghehowa this summer It’s true that Milan’s priority was always Tammy Abraham, who they eventually signed in the final days of the summer transfer window. However, it is also true that Milan sounded out other strikers, like Samu Aghehowa. The striker joined Porto from Atletico with a particular agreement: €15m for the 50% of the player’s right, which could raise to €25m for 80%. The clause is €100m. Aghehowa was packing his suitcase to join Porto in the summer, when Milan called. It was a request of information from the Rossoneri. They wanted to know the conditions for his transfer. However, the player had already reached an agreement with Porto, so he thanked Milan, but he wasn’t open to the dialogue. Juventus and Brentford had also asked for information even if more lightly. At some point, it seemed that Samu Aghehowa could joined Real Sociedad, but the La Liga side’s priority was Orri Óskarsson and when they decided to go all the way for the Iceland international, Aghehowa had the Porto option ready. The Portuguese side was his priority and kept his word despite Milan’s call. Juventus will be looking for defensive reinforcement after Bremer injury Juventus are not interested in signing a free agent to replace Bremer before the winter transfer window opens. However, as far as I know, Juventus will try to make an addition to the squad in January. Thiago Motta knows Jakub Kiwior well, having worked with the Poland international at Spezia. Nevertheless, his exit conditions from Arsenal are still unclear and it’s not even certain that Arsenal will let him go. It’s a situation that must be monitored, but I can confirm that Juventus will be looking for a central defender in the market during the January transfer window. Davide Calabria’s Milan future uncertain I can confirm that contract extension talks are stalling. Right now, there are signals that negotiations are not progressing and there’s a feeling that Calabria may not continue at Milan. His deal at San Siro expires this coming June. Galatasaray already made a concrete attempt to sign Calabria in the summer, precisely in August. However, the player wasn’t too convinced about the destination and I’m told that the situation has not changed. As of today, the Turkish League and Galatasaray are not among his favourite options. Surely, the player will look for alternative solutions to understand his future because contract extension talks with Milan are stalling. Bryan Zaragoza’s Bayern Munich return unlikely The 23-year-old has joined Osasuna on loan from Bayern Munich last summer and the player’s objective is to give his best for his club, for his and Osasuna’s good. Already today, however, I don’t see Zaragoza return to Bayern Munich at the end of the season. I believe that the two clubs will sit down to discuss a permanent transfer for the versatile winger. Surely, the player is entirely focused on Osasuna and has started the season well, scoring against Barcelona in La Liga. He’s returning to his level, but I think it’s unlikely that he’ll return to Bayern Munich, so the two clubs will sit down before the end of the season to find a solution regarding a permanent move. Dani Carvajal in advanced talks for Real Madrid extension As we already said in previous months, Carvajal is an important player for Real Madrid, on and off the pitch. There are ongoing talks for his contract extension given that his current deal runs out in June 2025. The two parties are discussing a one-year extension. It’s not a done deal yet, but both parties have a strong desire to shake hands. They are finalising an agreement as they want to continue together. Carvajal is a reference point in the dressing room and for young players joining Real Madrid and the La Liga giants want to continue relying on him.

  8. Video: Lukaku on football heroes, Napoli advice and ‘overwhelmed’ by fans https://football-italia.net/video-lukaku-on-football-heroes-napoli-advice/ (the video has English working subtitles) Romelu Lukaku reveals how Vincent Kompany inspired his playing career, meeting his football heroes, asking Dries Mertens for Napoli advice and being ‘overwhelmed’ by his welcome. Lukaku speaks several languages fluently, including Italian, and sat down with the Napoli YouTube Channel to talk about his life. He confessed to always supporting RSC Anderlecht and the most emotional moment was his debut for them, something he had been “dreaming of since I was six years old. “When I saw Vincent Kompany make his debut, I thought if he can do it, then so can I. Like me, he has Congolese origins, his father is from Brussels, he was in the youth academy. When he debuted, it gave me the extra push to do it too. “When I made my first appearance, my next thought was all about scoring goals, which I did in my second game.” Lukaku’s father was a player at the lower level of Belgian football and that meant his family moved around a lot. “I was very timid as a child, I didn’t talk much to people, as I was so focused on football and quite distant. When I see you are open with me, I will give you my soul, but if I see something else, I am stand-offish. “Football is my work, but also my passion, I try to watch as much as I can.” Icons who inspired Lukaku Lukaku was asked who were his heroes in football growing up and rattled off a list of great names. “Didier Drogba was my idol as a kid, then Thierry Henry, Ronaldo, Anelka and Eto’o. I have been fortunate enough to meet four of those five in my career.” The striker made the transfer from Chelsea over the summer for €30m, confirming that Serie A is his spiritual home after experiences at Inter and Roma. It is also a reunion with his former Inter boss Antonio Conte, who got the best out of him during his career when winning the Scudetto, and he knew Belgium international Mertens would have valuable advice. “When it first hit the internet that there was contact, straight away I saw the Instagram messages pour in from Napoli fans! I spoke to Dries, who I have known since I was 17 years old, and already had a trusted friend who could prepare me for life here. “You can sense that you represent an entire city and its population. It’s a fantastic feeling. It gives you energy every day. When I see players, physiotherapists, waiters, all those who work here, they are all true Neapolitans and love the club. This makes you feel good, but is also a big responsibility.” When he first arrived, Lukaku was presented to the fans at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona ahead of his debut goal in the comeback win over Parma. “It was overwhelmed by my presentation. It was incredible, I was like: wow! I felt such a different atmosphere and a truly positive energy. I scored, but we won, which was the most important thing.”
  9. Antonio Conte wins the Manager of the Month Award for Serie A in his second month in charge as Napoli head coach. Massive impact so far as Napoli are currently leading the Serie A table.
  10. it is insane that we still do not have a single LB on the squad ffs pick one from these: Tyrick Mitchell Lewis Hall Ben Chilwell Rico Henry James Justin Archie Brown
  11. England https://thedailybriefing.io/i/149749467/england England release official squad andDominic Solanke has been called up! Noni Madueke, Angel Gomes, Dean Henderson and Rico Lewis are part of the squad. James Maddison, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Jarrod Bowen have been left out.

  13. Jhon Durán was really, really close to Chelsea last summer https://thedailybriefing.io/i/149749832/jhon-duran-was-really-really-close-to-Chelsea-last-summer Jhon Durán is one of the best young strikers in Europe in this moment, but he's almost never starting for Aston Villa. Every time he enters the pitch he’s making an impact, scoring impressive goals and what he's doing is fantastic. Against Bayern he scored the winner on an historical night for Aston Villa, but Jhon Durán was actually really, really, really close to becoming a new Chelsea player at some point over the summer transfer window. It was before the beginning of the Euros. In that moment, early June, Chelsea and Aston Villa almost agreed on every part of the deal, which included Conor Gallagher. He was a priority target for Unai Emery and for Aston Villa but the real issue in this story was Conor Gallagher rejected the move. Particularly because of the timing as he wanted to represent England. The deal collapsed, but Jhon Durán was a really strong candidate for Chelsea. Let me also say credits to Villa, because when West Ham and other clubs wanted to sign the player, the club always said £50 million pounds or nothing. They rejected several approaches, several proposals for £42m plus an academy player, £42m plus a sell on clause… several proposals from other clubs, but Villa decided to keep Durán. Not an easy decision to make because there was important money on the table for a player who is not a regular.
  14. Gleison Bremer is out for the season but Juve won’t replace him until January https://thedailybriefing.io/i/149749832/gleison-bremer-is-out-for-the-season-but-juve-wont-replace-him-until-january It's a sad day for Juventus. Although it was an amazing night for them in the Champions League against Leipzig, there was a very serious injury to Gleison Bremer. A torn ACL and meniscus means that the season is over for a fantastic player. He will be back stronger I'm sure, but for Juventus it means some kind of emergency option for the centre-back position. Obviously they have Gati and Kalulu and they can maybe adapt Danilo, but they need one more centre-back. There were rumours about Sergio Ramos, because he’s probably the biggest name on the free agents market available right now. What I can tell you is that the current position of Juventus is to not go and sign any centre-backs. No contacts are taking place yet, Juventus will take their time, it happened not even 20 hours ago... no rush, no panic. So, despite the stories surrounding Ramos and any other centre-backs, Juventus will consider entering the market in January but not before. They will discuss options with Motta and pick the best one.
  15. Nothing in Frenkie de Jong to United/Chelsea rumours https://thedailybriefing.io/i/149749832/nothing-in-frenkie-de-jong-to-unitedchelsea-rumours There are no movements expected in January for Frenkie de Jong despite contractual rumours in the Spanish media, it's completely quiet. There's nothing in it. He's still very happy at Barcelona and fully focused on recovering his best form after the injury. All the rest - Chelsea, Man United - is just speculation, nothing else. I repeat, no transfer movements around de Jong.
  16. Ben Chilwell will move in January but Josh Acheampong is staying at Chelsea https://thedailybriefing.io/i/149749832/ben-chilwell-will-move-in-january-but-josh-acheampong-is-staying-at-Chelsea It's too early to comment on where Ben Chilwell will end up next. This is gonna be a topic for December because now it's still quiet. Chilwell is training at the best level possible to help Chelsea and to be as professional as usual. There are no contacts ongoing with any club yet, but the plan is for Chelsea to sell/offload Chilwell in January, that’s true. Staying with the Blues, there's no "situation" at all with Josh Acheampong. He's a Chelsea player, considered part of the project and an important talent, and he’s also really appreciated by Enzo Maresca and his staff. No story, no talks with Newcastle or any other club, nothing. Acheampong is one of the players trusted by Chelsea and there are no movements ongoing.
  17. Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea plan to sell £50m star, as January transfer to unbeaten giant awaits https://www.teamtalk.com/Chelsea/fabrizio-romano-confirms-Chelsea-plan-sell-50m-star-january-transfer-atletico-madrid-awaits Chelsea plan to offload left-back Ben Chilwell at the earliest possible opportunity and an unbeaten European giant are reportedly showing ‘strong interest’ in making a move. Chilwell does not feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans, with Marc Cucurella first choice and ably backed up by summer signing Renato Veiga. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s plan is to sell Chilwell in the January window. Romano wrote on X: “The plan remains to part ways in January with Chilwell expected to be one of the players set to leave Chelsea.” The 27-year-old cost roughly £50m when bought from Leicester City back in 2020. The Blues will struggle to recoup a fee close to that sum, though they do reportedly have a suitor ready to splash the cash. Reports claim Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are showing ‘strong interest’ in Chilwell and a mid-season transfer is being targeted. Atletico have started the new campaign in fine fashion and following Angel Correa’s last-gasp equaliser against Real Madrid last time out, they’re one of just two unbeaten sides in LaLiga after eight games (four wins, four draws). The other is Real Madrid (five wins, three draws). Chilwell has Premier League interest too Chelsea sought to offload Chilwell over the summer, with the defender part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’ of stars Maresca had no intention of using. Chilwell has featured just once this season on the back of failing to secure a transfer away. His only outing came in the EFL Cup thrashing of League Two side Barrow. In the event Chilwell were to join Atletico Madrid he’d link up with former Blues teammate Conor Gallagher. The all-action midfielder signed to the tune of £34m and has started Atletico’s last five matches in LaLiga, scoring two goals during that span. Chilwell may yet have options to remain in England, with the Sun detailing Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town’s interest in mid-September. Both Premier League sides are said to be ‘tracking’ Chilwell, though given his lack of game-time there hasn’t been a great deal to observe of late. Chelsea quoted new Duran fee / Ipswich alternative eyed In other news, Chelsea are still chasing Brazilian wonderkid Joao Pedro Chermont despite seeing a bid rejected. The Santos sensation, 18, is a right-back by trade and his contract contains a hefty €70m (£58.8m / $77.2m) release clause. Elsewhere, TEAMtalk can confirm Chelsea also retain hope of prising Jhon Duran out of Aston Villa. The Blues tried and failed to sign the Colombian hotshot last summer, though in lieu of his spectacular form this term, Villa are now demanding upwards of £80m. Finally, we can exclusively reveal the Blues are weighing up a swoop for former Manchester City striker, Liam Delap. The 21-year-old completed a £20m move to Ipswich Town in July and has scored three goals in six Premier League matches for Kieran McKenna’s side so far. Chilwell can follow in Lineker, McMananan, Beckham footsteps A move to Atletico Madrid would see Chilwell reunite with England teammate Conor Gallagher, who left Chelsea and joined Diego Simeone’s side in a £34million deal in the summer transfer window. Kieran Trippier is the only other Englishman to have played for Atletico and he helped the club win the LaLiga title in the 2020/21 season. Overall, 23 English footballers have played for a club in La Liga and Chilwell could be about to follow in the footsteps of some iconic figures. The likes of Laurie Cunningham, Gary Lineker, Steve McManaman, David Beckham and Jude Bellingham have all won trophies in Spain. But not every Englishman has been a success in La Liga as Jonathan Woodgate, Jermaine Pennant, Stan Collymore and Peter Barnes all endured difficult stints in Spain.

Nice problem to have, as they say. For now, Carsley’s greatest puzzle is how to fit the gilded trio of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer into the same team. In naming his squad for forthcoming Nations League games against Finland and Greece, Carsley confirmed that he envisaged a moment down the line when he would be doing it. There are those who may baulk at the idea of Bellingham, Foden and Palmer strung across the field behind captain Harry Kane. They may wonder about a vulnerability out of possession. They may question whether we should have a ‘flyer’ on one side of the field. Anthony Gordon or Bukayo Saka, perhaps. They are all sound arguments. England have an opportunity at the moment, though. There is almost two years before the World Cup in North America. Having been relegated to level B of the Nations League, England’s opponents — Finland, Greece and the Republic of Ireland — are not daunting. If there is a time to dispense with caution and experiment a little, then it may soon be upon us. And this feels like Palmer’s moment. In a fast-forward year, he has established himself as one of the most astonishingly exciting attacking talents in Europe. Chelsea paid Manchester City £40million for Palmer 13 months ago. What would his value be now? Three times that? Where he plays for England is more complicated. He has done much of his damage for Chelsea from the right. I would like to see him play at No10, just behind Kane. Get your best player on the ball as often as possible. At the moment, that player is Palmer. No 10 is Bellingham’s position, of course, and the Real Madrid superstar is the England squad’s alpha male. Asking him to move or to be a ‘finisher’ from the substitutes’ bench would be an interesting call from Carsley. These are the decisions that international managers are tasked with making, though. Welcome to the game, Lee Carsley.
  22. Peter Crouch raves about ‘fantastic’ £12m Chelsea player after his display vs Gent https://www.thechelseachronicle.com/match-coverage/peter-crouch-raves-about-fantastic-12m-Chelsea-player-after-his-display-vs-gent/ Peter Crouch singled out one Chelsea player for big praise after Thursday night’s win in Europe against Gent. Chelsea are up and running in the Conference League group stages with a 4-2 victory tonight at home to Gent. Enzo Maresca displayed the strength in depth within the Blues squad by making 11 changes to the starting line-up. Despite the alterations, it was another eye-catching result from Chelsea to make it five consecutive wins for the club across all competitions. Renato Veiga, Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were all on the scoresheet for the hosts at Stamford Bridge. Journalist Simon Johnson claimed via X that Maresca celebrated the most when Dewsbury-Hall scored, which is no surprise given the pair’s time together at Leicester City last season. READ MORE: Five things we learned from Chelsea’s 4-2 victory against Gent Peter Crouch impressed by Renato Veiga Peter Crouch really liked the individual display from Chelsea’s Renato Veiga in midweek versus Gent. The 21-year-old left-back put in another commanding performance both on and off the ball. In particular, he scored his first goal for the club with a brilliant header in the 12th minute. “I haven’t seen a great deal of him (Veiga), but Joe Cole was telling me what a good player he was. I saw it tonight,” Crouch said on TNT Sports 1 (10:17pm, 3 October). “I thought he was fantastic, another fantastic player to have in the squad. A player who looked like he was enjoying himself and playing with a smile on his face. “He finds himself in a lot of space [for his goal]… It was a fantastic header.” A new cult hero is born It’s pretty obvious to us that Veiga is quite quickly become a real favourite with Chelsea supporters during his debut season in English football. The £12m summer signing (BBC) is putting in some excellent performances to win over the fanbase. Veiga got a goal and assist against Gent as he was rewarded for the attacking intent he shows. We equally enjoy just how aggressive he is in his defensive work, too. The Portugal international is turning out to be the ideal cover for Marc Cucurella at left-back, but he’s also shown he can cover in midfield or central defence is needed as well. At the age of 21, Chelsea have pulled off a genius transfer with Veiga in the most recent window.
  23. “It was my decision” – Forgotten €20m man details why he stayed at Chelsea this summer https://Chelsea.news/2024/10/cesare-casadei-opens-up-on-decision-to-stay-at-Chelsea/ Cesare Casadei has revealed that it was his decision to stay at Chelsea this summer and said he couldn’t be more proud to play for the club. Casadei has very much been a bit part player since he joined the Blues from Inter Milan in 2022 and he’s subsequently had loan spells at both Reading and Leicester, where he worked under now manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian is going to struggle to get minutes in the Premier League and the cup competitions represent his best chance of match action. Casadei wanted to stay at Chelsea this summer Casadei got his first action of the season as he started in the 5-0 win against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and he could feature in the Europa Conference League against Gent on Thursday night. Some might be surprised that the 21-year-old is still at the club as he was expected to be one of the players that would move on, but he revealed in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Gent game that it was decision to remain at the club this summer. “It was my decision [to stay and not go out on loan],” he told reporters as cited on X.com. “The last season was not easy for me. I was thinking what was the best solution for me. But the moment I spoke to the manager, I was 100% sure the decision to stay would be best for me. “I never had the idea to [leave] permanently. I spoke with the manager, he told me what he thinks, I had no doubt. “I always wanted to play for Chelsea, one of the biggest teams in the world. I could not be more proud to play for Chelsea.”
