It's actually the opposite. MVG has got way more to his game than Swift. Baker has more to his game than Swift too but still not at MVG's level. Swift can't defend. For that reason he is not a CM player of the pivot kind. He has no awareness nor physicality for it. In the u21, he plays mainly on the Right wing, and as a number 10. The rare instances he played as a CM staying deep or box-box the team was exposed and had no stability. Perhaps you are enamored by the breakuot season he had last yr. He has developed an eye for goal I'll give him that. But you have to remember that he played mainly upfront not deep like say a RLC or Ake in Midfield, where MVG plays too. And he had like 6 goals total a few yrs before last yr. He was even released at some point!!! He doesn't even have MVG's passing range or aerial prowess(notice-MVG rarely looses an aerial battle). And his decision making is still poor. In other words, Swift won't make the first team. Because all the AMs we have are better than him i.e(Hazard,Oscar,Willian,Fabregas,Schurrle,Salah,Bertrand Traore,Atsu,Piazon even the likes of Boga and Baker-if ends up as a 10.) And at CM he is very limited. He doesn't have the positional awareness(to bring balance and stability in Midfield) of the likes of Matic, Romeu,MVG,Chalobah and even Pasalic,RLC or Baker-if he ends up as a CM. The best I can see Swift do is eke out a career in the lower leagues and improve his decision making enough to became a Lallana kind of AM by his mid-late 20s. As far as his Chelsea career is concerned, the first team ain't gonna happen for him pal.

It's just funny to see people thinking John Swift is any better than MVG let alone "much better"

At this rate, more likely to replace Cabaye at Newcastle

Go vote Azpi for Chelsea Player of the year. He has been a monster this yr.

The picture is of Tika Musonda not Charly Musonda.

Oscar is miles better than Mata when Mata was 22. I can also bet he will also be a much better player than Mata at 26. Mata is more mature in his play than Oscar, and that is expected as he is 3.5 yrs older than Oscar. Mata has likely already peaked because he is not a naturally gifted athlete. He will never be very robust, he will never be fast, he will never have big acceleration, he will never have a big engine. He doesn't have all that in his arsenal to work upon and improve. Not to mention, he can't get down and dirty. You won't ever see crunching tackles and bravely from him. And also he is not physically gifted. He is a very limited footballer. His bread and butter is in being a technical passer of the ball and he has likely peaked in that ability already with very little left for him to work upon.

The team is more stable and balanced without Mata. As Willian and Oscar grow into their roles, there will be more creativity. You can cry for Mata all you want, but he doesn't fit very well into a high pressing approach. He is not that kind of player, he is very limited as an athlete. And don't expect to ever win the league with an unbalnced teaam. It's one of the main reasons why were out of the race by Christmass last season.

Yes indeed, the Academy is very dominant and are often more pleasant to watch. But that's down to a number of things. Among other things, the academy guys have played that style for a long time. Basically it's how they are trained to play. And they almost never deviate from it. But at first team level, they guys sometimes change styles especially when playing very difficult opposition. The first team guys also haven't been playing that style of high pressing and quick passing all their lives. They have to adopt to the new system. And previously the Managers were all using different systems to that of the Academy. This yr the the Academy and the first team have both been playing the same way. The first team has been less succesful because the players have to adopt and get used to the system. That's why they have been very inconsistent in both results and beauty of performances. Also Mou has often deviated from the style; I think precisely because the players are not yet confortable in their roles and also limitations in players available. Where as the Academy almost never change the style of play and the players are very comfortable in their roles.

Clearly you haven't seen any Chelsea youth games. The academy play exactly the same way as the first team. Especially this season/year. They have carbon copy styles. But it's still huge leap moving from u21 football to PL and CL football. Some players might have to switch positions/roles IF THEY MAKE IT to the first team. Like Ake, while he has played mainly as a CB at youth level(also played LB and DM), he is more likely to make it as a DM in the first team.

Boga is the most gifted one. Boga, RLC, Solanke, Chalobah/Christensen should be able to make it here if they keep improving. I'm afraid Musonda is gonna go the way of Mceachran. Slight frame, light build, although naturally gifted. Musonda should already start working on his body if he is to avoid the Mceachran conundrum. He is not physically gifted but has ridiculous ball skills. He should mold himself basing on the likes of Iniesta, Modric, etc. They are not physical specimens nor do they have great speed or athletic ability but have ridiculous ball skills and have built up their bodies to withstand the rigors of top flight football. Izzy Brown, Ake, and Ola Aina have a shot too. But it all depends on the lads being given a chance. Something the club is at-least trying to address unlike in the past 10yrs
