Newcastle have confirmed that Kevin Keegan will make a dramatic return to manage the club.

The 56-year-old former Manchester City boss managed the Magpies from 1992 to 1997 and will return to St James' Park as Sam Allardyce's successor.

Gerard Houllier and Didier Deschamps were strongly linked with the position in the last two days but the club unexpectedly turned to Keegan.

He was initially linked only with a partnership role with Alan Shearer.

The ex-England coach was running his "Soccer Circus" in Glasgow after qutting his job at City in March 2005.

He was also linked with a return to the club last summer as director of football following Mike Ashley's takeover.

Blimey, that's insane. I can't actually believe that, he did all he could possibly do for them, thats why he left last time. Now he's taking it again. Well i wish him luck because i like him, but he's got a horrible job imo. needs at least 2 years in charge, thats minimum, no 8 month bullshit. i understand he wants to help and get newcastle stable again and back into europe, but he's in for a rough ride.

they'll (Newcastles board) be more sympathetic for keegan as they were for Allardyce. They'll give him longer because of who he is and what he means to Newcastle United Football Club and the fans. He'll get 2 seasons i think, but it wont change anything. They'll still be trophyless, useless and well....... crap

Newcastles problem is that they believe that they are a much bigger club than they actually are and can never accept that no-one is going to take them where they "believe" they should be unless someone spends an absolute fortune on them.... Which i don't think Mike Ashley as rich as he is will do.

Well that's progress for you.

More embarrassingly uncontrolled rants to look forward to - splendid.

At least it makes the Prem a bit more lively -emotional Kev at his best .

Remember when he was asleep in his Range Rover and got battered by a load of blokes with baseball bats ?

Well aparently he has been given a blank Cheque book to create a dream team in the next 3 years. The papers are also claiming that he has targeted Defoe and Wright-Phillips as his first targets.

Highly likely its exagerrated. Would we sell SWP now ? Been outstanding recently.

Ere' Kev , you can have Sidwell, Haim and Pizarro.

No we wouldn't sell SWP now! Mainly because we would never be able to sign a top quality replacement in the short time left in the window.

I could see Kenyon letting him go for 15 m. But we should hang onto the little imp.

I would sell him in the summer to be honest, at the end of the day we can get and need a better winger than him. And as good as he is in the Attacking midfield role (and he is quality there) we can again get better who are a natural in that position.

Our winger situation needs improving in the summer with 1 World Class winger and unfortunately SWP would be the one to make way because Cole, Kalou and Malouda all offer a lot more than SWP in the wings.

There are better options for wingers but if he plays the way he has lately behind the strikers then we should keep him imo.

Would much rather have someone taylor made for that position who are truly world class like Iniesta, Van Der Vaart, Modric, Dos Santos ect.....
