Block Control is an 80 minute mix of UK garage, breakbeat, and drum n bass tunes mixed by me. It's available now here at Bandcamp: https://hdmixtapes.bandcamp.com/ and limited to 100 numbered copies. Each tape comes with a download code and a glow in the dark sticker. 

It's 25 tracks from around 1996 through 2020. It's sort of a love letter to electronic music from the last several decades. Every track on here is one that I personally love. I also layered a bunch of sci-fi movie samples over parts of the mix. Definitely will sound it's best if you have a subwoofer!  I hope you dig it! I had a ton of fun putting it together.

The Stieber Twins are a duo from Heidelberg, Germany, consisting of the brothers Martin (Marshall Mar, a.k.a. Martin Jekyll) and Christian (Luxus Chris a.k.a. Christian Hyde). They are known as graffiti artists, breakdancers, rappers, hip hop producers and DJs.

The twins are active since ca. 1983, and produce hip hop music since 1992. Their first instrumental was on the album Alte Schule ("Old school"), the first songs that featured the twins rapping were "HipHop und Rap" ("HipHop and Rap") and "Allein zu zweit" ("Alone Together") and were released in 1995 on the album The Sound of MZEE. They are considered pioneers of German hip hop and their productions were ahead of their time and a formative influence. Although they have only released one rap album, they are well respected in Germany because of their lyrics critical of the music business, staying true to the original elements of the artform, spoken in distinctive Heidelberg accent.

They have worked with many German artists, and have also collaborated with artists such as GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, Prodigal Sunn of Sunz of Man and the Arsonists.

Madonna - Burning Star [The Reflex Revision]

This is a complete revamp of an alternative version of my 'Lucky Star' revision from 2013. Although I liked the groove, there was just not enough going on to make it work on its own, so I added sounds from the 'Burning Up' stems and just got creative as it's in a different key and tempo. The result is more like a new track than a basic mash-up I would say, I love it and I hope you'll dig it too. 118bpm.

Jorge Ben - Fio Maravilha (1972)

 

 

João Batista de Sales (born January 19, 1945, in Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais), better known as Fio Maravilha, is a former Brazilian football player. In Brazil he played for Flamengo, Paysandu Sport Club, CEUB, Desportiva and São Cristóvão. Later he moved to the United States, where he played for the New York Eagles, the Montebello Panthers, and the San Francisco Mercury.

He is perhaps most famous for the hit single "Fio Maravilha" that was written about him in 1972 by Jorge Ben (later known as Jorge Ben Jor). The musician attended a friendly game between Flamengo and Benfica at Maracanã. Fio was left out of Flamengo's starting lineup by coach Mário Zagallo, but after a chorus of fans demanded that he play, he was brought in as a substitute. After 33 minutes in the second half he scored the goal ("the goal of an angel") that was immortalized in the song:

...driblou o goleiro
Só não entrou com bola e tudo porque teve humildade.
("...he dribbled past the goalkeeper but did not enter the goal with the ball because he was humble.")

As the result of a legal dispute between Jorge Ben and Fio, the title of the song was later changed to "Filho Maravilha". In 2007, Fio gave the musician permission to use his name (Fio) in the song.
