Australia and US are lands of immigrants, unless you are a Red Indian or a Cherokee you wont be saying i am pure american similarly, unless you are an Aborigin you wouldnt say im an Aussie.

Could go back far enough, probably find my ancestors on the British side came from what is now Germany, being that those that populate Britain tend to descend from Saxons or Scandinavians, so as they were not from Britannia, am I German, or Swedish?

Personally I think as far back as you need to go is grandparents as far as nationality is concerned. If your grandparents were all born in America/Australia, then you are very much American/Australian.

You can talk about DNA and then we all get parcelled into European/Asian/African, but what's the use of that?

No-one is indigenous to anywhere.

England is a political entity. You can't say, for example, you're English because your DNA descends from the DNA of people present in what we call England 2000 years ago because England didn't exist then! It's all pointless.

For me your nationality has to be based on where you were born, where you were brought up, and where your immediate and next to immediate family was from. Anything other than that is rubbish.

I hope you don't think all British people use immigrants as scape goats by the way. That would be as stupid as those people that do.
