Abramovich could fund ‘hefty’ summer deal

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has revealed up to five players will be sold this summer – and said Roman Abramovich could help fund a major signing.

The Blues were involved in a flurry of activity in the seasons following Abramovich’s takeover in 2003, but recent transfer windows have been notably quieter.

As a result, it had been suggested that the Russian was no longer willing to invest in new players – particularly in light of his reported losses in the recession – but Buck believes he would be prepared to fund a major transfer this summer.

“We are expecting some players to leave this summer – I don’t know whether it is three, four or five – and several players to come in,” he said.

“In the large part, we would like to fund acquisitions with sales – that just makes good business – but I think if the player came along at the right price, and it was a hefty price, and it worked for Chelsea Football Club, then Mr Abramovich would be willing to invest more money in the club for that transfer.

“But, by and large, we’d like to purchase players with funds that have been received by selling players.”

Chelsea have been linked with a number of top players in recent weeks but, asked if there was any truth in the rumours of a move for Juventus striker David Trezeguet, Buck denied that any specific targets have been identified.

“He is a good player, but we are only just starting to think about the summer transfers, so anything you read in the paper regarding transfers is a total fabrication,” he said.

“Starting this month, we have meetings of the football club board, with [chief scout] Frank Arnesen and Guus Hiddink, who will be helping us with our summer transfers.

“As the transfer window opens at the end of May, you will start to see some action from Chelsea Football Club but, like I said, you are not going to see a wholesale replacement of this team for another team.

“You are going to see a few players in and a few players out.”

here's my five players to go:

Deco

Ballack

Malouda

Mineiro

Kalou

I am curious to see if we really are interested in Villa or not.

I agree with those that he would be a great talent for us but I am not 100% sure he really fits with us next year and he will be a LOT of money

Buck mentioned that they have only just begun talking about possible transfer targets, so im sure his name has come up, whether or not they will actually pursue him only time will tell.

Its quite funny how 2 months ago when a similar topic popped up everybody had Drogba in there list of players to go. Seems alot different now.

Whatever Guus did, thank you

Well, I think it is obvious Guus came in and put his foot down fitness wise. I think that has really helped us down the stretch

Players i can see leaving are:

Florent Malouda

Paulo Ferreira

Deco

Mineiro

Alex (possibly)

Juliano Belletti

Florent Malouda: If his form in the CL is any indication of his ability, i say give him another year.

Paulo Ferreira: Has a big injury. We won’t get shit for him

Deco: Ill pay them to sell him.

Mineiro: Was bought by Scolari, should have left with him..

Alex: ?????? Are you insane?! I would make him my top priority!

Juliano Belleti: Has shown promise as an impact player and never complains about the lack of game time. Also has a match winning foot, and header.

Now who i think should go:

Joe Cole: We have been carrying him for the last two seasons. Is injury prone and seems to be way off target.

Bosingwa: Hasn't been the same since half way through the season. His passing of late has been woeful. Very lazy in defense.

Anelka: Let’s face it, he's Boring, always out of position, and can only score if the ball is placed in front of an open goal. Could you imagine the money we would get for the EPL top scorer?

Are you kidding?

Joe Cole is one of our best players,

Bosingwa has been our best signing, he may of dipped lately but he has been fantastic most of the season,

We have been saying for a while that the squad needs looking at and given something of an overhaul, especially bringing in some younger talent. It would not suprise me to see us spend a fair bit in the summer.

The players leaving are more than likely to be Ferreira, Miniero, Malouda - possibly Deco, Ballack and also likely one of Alex, Ivanovic and Carvalho. But there are always some suprises and the most important thing is getting the right balance in the squad.

What if Hiddink is not remaining as our manager?

Will that manager be able to motivate him? Or will he become like the trash he was under Scholari.

Drogba? your joking right? If he had of been fit and raring to go at the begining of the season he would be on 25+ goals.
