Eduardo Camavinga is only 16 but his form for Rennes has top European scouts circling

https://www.espn.com/soccer/french-ligue-1/story/3950530/eduardo-camavinga-is-only-16-but-his-form-for-rennes-has-top-european-scouts-circling

Since the beginning of August, Stade Rennais have seen two things experience massive growth in their day-to-day operations as a football club and both of them are related to one player in their squad.

The first thing is the requests for match tickets from scouts all over Europe, which have soared. The second is the solicitations for sit-down interviews, which have also multiplied. All this for a 16-year-old kid who still can't drive his own car, is still going to school, still lives at the Academy and has played only 12 Ligue 1 matches in his career.

Eduardo Camavinga has just enjoyed the best month of his life. The midfielder was named Ligue 1's best player in August after stellar performances against Montpellier, Strasbourg and Paris Saint-Germain. He bossed the PSG midfield like few players do in France, let alone at 16. He outplayed Marco Verratti and Marquinhos and made a real name for himself that night but nothing about Camavinga's success feels like a surprise.

Eighteen months ago, at the age of 15, Camavinga was already playing with the Rennes reserve team in the French fourth division and making a difference. Landry Chauvin, the former Rennes academy director, saw the phenomenon up close.

"Since he joined us at 10 years old from a local club, he was destined for great things. He was always ahead of everyone else in his age group but also everyone else one or two age groups above [him] in terms of talent, intelligence and maturity," Chauvin told ESPN FC.

Camavinga's prodigious talent was there for everyone to see. At the beginning of 2019 when he started to train with the first team, some were gobsmacked by what he could do.

"We were like 'wow,'" Hatem Ben Arfa, who played with Camavinga last season at Rennes, told ESPN FC. "He was incredible. Technically and physically, he is a monster. Everything he does is perfect. For me, he is the modern midfielder by definition. There is nothing he can't do. He can defend, tackle, head the ball, create, score, assist. He is powerful but gifted technically with his left foot. He is intelligent, elegant.

"You would have rarely seen a player like him at his age. Because let's not forget: he's still 16."

Camavinga's superb start to the Ligue 1 season has led to all kinds of player comparisons even though his position in the heart of midfield differs from that of other French prodigies. To one old coach, he's the next Kylian Mbappe. Chauvin compares him to Ousmane Dembele, expecting his career to take a similarly steep trajectory as Dembele, who moved from Rennes to Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona in just two years, but also admits that Camavinga is already more serious, disciplined and professional than Dembele has ever been.

His manager, Julien Stephan, is doing his best to keep his young star midfielder grounded. "He has huge potential and, if you can believe it, we didn't want to rush him into the first team," he said. "But there is a moment when you realise that there is no need to wait any longer because he is ready and he will bring a lot to the team even in Ligue 1.

"I just hope he will continue to work hard, continue to learn and to develop. We will certainly put him in the right environment for that."

Born in Angola to Congolese parents, Camavinga arrived in France with his family when he was 2. He grew up with his parents and five brothers and sisters on the outskirts of Rennes, where the club spotted him playing for local side AGL Drapeau Fougères. When he was young, the Camavingas' house burnt down and they lost everything, a tragedy that made Eduardo even more determined to succeed. Although he excelled at judo as a kid, football quickly became his thing and making it to the top was always his dream.

"He has always been dedicated about football. He has a football IQ way above average but he will not rest on his laurels," added Chauvin. "There are a lot of talented young players in the world but he has something special because his talent comes with maturity as well despite his young age."

The diamond from Rennes is, predictably, already attracting the interests of bigger clubs. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, to name just a few, have been following Camavinga for a while but have stepped up their interest in recent weeks after seeing how much of an impact he's already having in Ligue 1.

"Talent like this, so precocious but already so mature, doesn't come along very often in football. [Camavinga] has been so impressive. I don't think there is anyone as strong as him in Europe in his age group," a scout of a top European club told ESPN about the Rennes prodigy.

If you need further proof of how good Camavinga is, he's been at the heart of a huge battle from Europe's top agents to secure his representation. Mino Raiola (agent to Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic), Jorge Mendes (Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea), Giuliano Bertolucci (Marquinhos, David Luiz) and others have been knocking at his door, sources tell ESPN FC. He ultimately chose Moussa Sissoko, Dembele's agent, who lives in London and is quickly becoming more and more influential at top clubs.

Before thinking about his next move -- and there will be plenty of opportunities next summer -- the young midfielder is hoping that his French passport will finally arrive. His request should come through quickly now after waiting for years. Once he officially becomes a French citizen, Didier Deschamps will surely be quick in giving him a first call-up for Les Bleus.

Eduardo Camavinga: Scout report of Europe's top wonderkids

https://www.mykhel.com/football/eduardo-camavinga-scout-report-of-europe-top-wonderkids-127990.html

Bengaluru, September 26: The top clubs in Europe are always in an ever-going process of finding talents across the globe in order to improve their squad.

To achieve success on a consistent basis, only a good first team and a quality bench is not enough. A good scouting network is a must for any club in order to sustain at the top level. Scouting network of the bigger clubs are getting stronger and stronger nowadays and they are all looking at especially the young talents who can be long-term prospects. With the transfer market getting more and more inflated, signing players after they become stars is becoming all the more difficult and that is why most teams are focusing on getting the best youngsters when they are much younger and raw.

A player who has recently attracted interest from most of the European elites at the tender age of just 16 is Eduardo Camavinga who comes from the reputed youth academy of Rennes. The youngster has been scouted regularly by a host of clubs across Europe including Premier League trio of Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. And of course, French giants PSG are also in the race. In fact, Camavinga earned the spotlight especially after his sensational display against the French champions in the game when Rennes stunned them 2-1 earlier this campaign.

At just 16 years of age, Camavinga is already a regular for a decent team in one of the top five leagues in Europe and has everything to excite the footballing world. The Angola-born midfielder created the record for the youngest ever player to record an assist in Ligue 1 and that too playing in a defensive midfield role. Last season, Camavinga broke another record becoming the first player born after January 1, 2002 to start a game in Europe’s top five leagues, when he was named in the eleven against Monaco last May.

His rapid rise has drawn comparisons to French sensation Kylian Mbappe although the two players are much different players. Camavinga is a defensive midfielder and his best traits are his strength and tactical awareness which is gifted for a player who is just 16. Against a much stronger team like PSG, the 16-year-old completed all but one of his 41 passes at Roazhon Park as he outshone PSG star midfield duo Marco Verratti and Marquinhos.

He can play as a solitary defensive midfielder behind two box to box midfielders and he also is quite capable of playing in a two-man midfield. He excels in most defensive aspects of the game namely recoveries, blocks, clearances and interceptions but also needs to improve on a few areas like aerial duels and success rate in sliding tackles. However, at 16 years of age, he is still much ahead of his age and will only improve with time and experience. What makes him stand out from the rest is his technical abilities which is a must for a modern day defensive midfielder, a role that is much beyond just a destroyer or a ball-winner.

Rennes place '£51m price tag' on 17-year-old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga amid Barcelona and Manchester United interest

Eduardo Camavinga has shone both domestically and in Europe for Rennes
He has attracted heavy interest from Barcelona and Manchester United recently
Rennes are playing hardball by slapping a hefty £51million price tag on teenager

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7735061/Rennes-place-51m-price-tag-Eduardo-Camavinga-amid-Barcelona-Manchester-United-interest.html

Rennes have moved quickly to deter both Barcelona and Manchester United by slapping a hefty £51million price tag on Eduardo Camavinga.

The 17-year-old midfielder has shone for Rennes this season in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League, and he has since attracted heavy interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

And according to French publication L'Equipe, the Ligue 1 outfit have put a £51m price tag on the Rennes starlet.

Camavinga has already played a total of 16 matches for Rennes this season across all competitions.

While Rennes know it will be extremely difficult to hold on to their extremely talented teenager, they are hoping to lure Barcelona and United into paying big money for his services.

The 17-year-old, who is gearing up for Rennes' Europa League clash at Celtic on Thursday, currently has a contract at the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2022.

Personally think he should stay at Rennes to he is 21. Get close to or over 100 games under his belt. A wise move would he for whoever signs him to loan him back to Rennes so he can keep playing at a competitive enough level every week as they obviously see him as a player to build around. He is undoubtedly a huge talent and will make it to the top but think going to a United or a Madrid where he might be in and out the 11 at 19 or 20 could go against him, more so Madrid look at Kovacic, look at Jovic... in and out the 11 and they were more senior players and further along than he is. Although PSG could be an excellent move I think because him being a French NT player and also being a very good Ligue 1 player, he would continue to play with Tuchel and get the CL exposure most seasons as well as play alongside some top players in MF such as Verratti, Di Maria plus throw in Neymar, Mbappe and Icardi also.

I'm not a believer so at the moment I wouldn't mind if we missed out on this lad.

He does not look 'tight' to me. The ball sometimes seems to be bobbling around a bit when he's carrying it with him desperately trying to look like he meant whatever just happened. Also, he has developed the habit of going to ground when he's carried the ball into trouble, or it has bobbled there. Refs will learn.

In addition, his tackling style looks like an injury waiting to happen. As I say, I'm not sold.

Rennes slash asking price for Man Utd, Real Madrid target Camavinga

https://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/rennes-slash-asking-price-for-man-utd-real-madrid-target-camavinga-4349773

Rennes have cut their price for Eduardo Camavinga.

AS says Camavinga is available for just £45million.

The Rennes star, 18, is free to leave the Ligue 1 side with just 18 months left on his current deal.

Manchester United are known to be big fans, with doubts growing over Paul Pogba's long-term future.

But Real Madrid are also in the race for Camavinga, with Juventus keen too.

The youngster was previously thought to be available for £68m.

But Camavinga reportedly sacked his agent in a signal of intent to join a new club.

And with time rapidly expiring on his current contract, Rennes are apparently happy to let him depart for a more reasonable £45m.
