Daily Star:

JOE Cole's future at Chelsea is in doubt.

The England midfielder is still seething from being left out of the Carling Cup Final side against Spurs last Sunday.

Cole, 26, has since held talks with under-fire coach Avram Grant over his shock demotion but the pair failed to settle matters.

Now sources sources close to the player suggest he would leave if Grant's rotation system is still in place next season and he is a regular victim.

The Chelsea camp was stunned by Cole's shock Wembley omission – he only came on as an extra-time sub – and believe he could have saved them from their 2-1 defeat.

Joe is a quiet person. He doesn't like causing a fuss but being left out hurt An insider

"Joe is a quiet person. He doesn't like causing a fuss but being left out hurt," said an insider.

Cole, a scorer at Upton Park, yesterday, was a success under previous boss Jose Mourinho.

But the frustrated player knows he can't be guaranteed an England place if he is a victim of rotation and would seek a first-team place elsewhere.

the only thing worth reading in the daily star is BEAU PEEP

Aaargh, you beat me to it Paul.

Apparantley Joe's cousin is the source of the story.

Nonsense story and if the press paid Cole's cousin then more fool them and really shows they have more money than sense.

Good news, the Sun has decided he's staying lol

Joe Cole insists he is happy at Chelsea after reports linked him with a move away from the club.

The England international was surprisingly omitted from the Chelsea side for their Carling Cup final defeat to Tottenham.

Cole, amongst others, was understood to be unhappy with his treatment - but he responded in great fashion at the weekend as he inspired The Blues to a 4-0 thrashing of his former club West Ham at Upton Park.

Speaking after the comprehensive win on his former stomping ground, Cole insisted he was happy as a Blue.

No drama

"I don't get too much involved with all the dramas around the club," he told The Sun.

"My job as a player is to try and perform as best as I can when selected.

"I played and made a contribution so I am happy with that and happy we got the right result.

"The right performances and the right attitude were all there for everyone to see so it was a great response.

"It was a great response, not just from the players who played, but from everyone at the club.

"We have had a good week to take it all in and we have put in a good performance. The run-in has started and it is a good time to come into form."

Aston Villa plot shock bid for Joe Cole

Aston Villa are looking at an audacious £17.5million bid to lure Joe Cole from Chelsea.

Martin O'Neill's staff have put the 26-year-old England star on their radar if Chelsea manage to prise Robinho away from Real Madrid.

They suspect Cole, who has just two years left on his Stamford Bridge contract and has yet to have serious talks on a new one, could then be surplus to requirements.

Villa could then offer him a way out to play regular football and protect his place in Fabio Capello's England squad.

Cole has suffered from Chelsea's massive squad, playing 90 minutes of a Premier League game only 12 times last season, and the arrival of the Brazilian as well as Portuguese star Deco would be a massive blow to him.

Villa still want a marquee signing as a sign of their intent to challenge the top four, and are now the only club outside the current Champions League cartel with the cash to attract such a big name.

Billionaire owner Randy Lerner has made it clear he'll back O'Neill in the market whether or not Gareth Barry's sale to Liverpool goes through.

O'Neill is still chasing Valencia's Portuguese international Miguel despite completing deals for Luke Young and Nicky Shorey last week.

He's also in the hunt for Tottenham's French defender Younes Kaboul if Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp can't raise the cash by selling David Nugent to Ipswich.

He played more than anyone else last season.
