Theres loads of ways to be a glory hunter, you aint one Hingis. A glory hunter because you supported Chelsea in 1997.... thats kinda funny. You should have your own local Belgian team tho as well because your from there, i know you like Anderlecht so you should follow them with your heart too because they are from where you are. I see threads like this pop up a good bit lately across the internet and am always curious to hear what other people have to say. My own personal opinion is that I have not the slightest clue how someone can just wake up one day and pronounce...."I am going to root for Team A" and yet live thousands of miles away and have NEVER even been to the city where they are located. How do you understand a team without being in their home park with tens of thousands others? How do you understand the heated rivalries without seeing it firsthand? That is not me saying that those that can't go for whatever reasons now are less fans but I am just speaking of those that have never even been to England and lives thousands of miles away with no intention of ever going to a match. I am over-seas now and see it firsthand. People see Chelsea on TV and decide they want to root for them so they get some kits and become a fan. More power to you and I welcome all. But, I also see how really disconnected they are from the team when the bad times come. The term glory hunter has become much more known on the internet the last few years and thus people have come up with all sorts of reasons why they aren't but I think it is obvious who they are and what they really are rooting for....and IMO it isn't Chelsea but the coolness of being attached to a winning, financial team. While the support is great now, come rough times...I suspect we will see a drop-off. And that isn't me mocking just our fans....if United suffers a bad season ahead, expect to see their fans jump in numbers....and the same goes with the other Big 4 teams. It happens. On the estate I live, I have seen people who laughably called themselves Chelsea/Utd/Arsenal fans, now wearing Citeh tops. I find it all a bit incredulous really. Like most of you on here, I have been a lifelong supporter and used to go to all games home and away, I had my heart in my mouth on many many occasions and almost cried when JT missed 'that penalty' The only other team I will admit to looking out for their results is Brighton and Hove Albion, because they are the team in my home town. The reason I don't support BHAFC, is that Chelsea were the first team I ever saw live and I continued to go there on a regular basis with family until I was old enough to go on my own. It has been nearly forty years since I first went to the Bridge and the anticipation of each match is as strong today as it was when I was a nipper. I did cry when he missed that penalty, and I don't think I'm the only one. In my opinion, it doesn't matter who you support. Where you live should not dictate which football team you support. I live in Derbyshire, but does that make me any less of a fan than someone who lives on the King's Road? And does it make me more of a fan than someone who lives in Newcastle, or in any other place? No, it doesn't. If you ask me, as long as you support that club for the rest of your life, through thick and thin, that makes you a proper football fan. What about ex-pats who live the other side of the world? What about people who just cant afford it? Are they not worthy to be a fan and branded a "glory hunter" just because they dont go to games? That's a load of bullshit, if your watching the match at the stadium or on TV, then you still support them, you still jump for joy when your score a goal, and you nod your head in disapointed when your team concede a goal. I've been supporting them since I was about 6 or 7, that's been about 10 years now. I've only been to 3 matches, but becuase I don't earn money, and my brother and Dad both support West Ham. Kids who would go to support Chelsea because they won the league I don't consider glory hunters, they're just kids to be fair who see the best team and go with that. Of course there are other kids who watch their local team or are brought up into the team they love by family. I was lucky enough to be bought into Chelsea by my dad who started supporting them when he was about 7 years old, when they beat leeds to lift the FA cup... that kinds of shows 2 sides of the spectrum through different generations. Obviously if you dont have enough money you cant go anyway so your not to be blamed for that. People who work and get paid enough to pay their bills and still have 100 pound left over and decide to take that money and spend it on drink, instead of going to the match once in a while are not true fans in my eyes. I strongly believe their are a lot of fans that lie about not being able to afford a ticket. You just ask manchester city fans before the arabs came in they could not even sell out home games to teams like liverpool and Chelsea infact in 2004 i sat with their fans cause our end was full they were selling tickets to home fans at the turnstiles. When the money comes in and the quality players as a result, they sold out games against fulham and sunderland. If you really cant afford it then thats not your fault at all but i think some people use it as a cheap excuse. But had never been to the San Siro before, like the tens of thousands that do pay their hard earned cash to go and support AC Milan, I would say that was rather insulting to those fans at the San Siro, to say that I supported Milan as much as them. Anyway, to the topic starter. I don't you're a glory hunter, but seriously, why do you need to be reassured that you're a fan or whatever? I don't really care what people think about me when say that, I was never really a football fan that much only watch England every so often. But then I watched a random Chelsea match about 3 years ago and I've been hooked ever since, I watch all the matchs I can and if I had the money I'd have a season ticket. I go threw all the up's and down's with Chelsea and plan to for the rest of my life, so I know i'm not a Glory Hunter as I'm never going to jump ship what ever happens.
