Drogba Injury - Out Until October?

Chelsea star Didier Drogba will not play until the end of October, according to his national coach Vahid Halilhodzic.

The 30-year-old striker underwent knee surgery earlier in the year and missed the club's pre-season campaign, but he was expected to be back in action within the next few weeks.

Drogba travelled with Ivory Coast ahead of their friendly with Guinea in France and now Halilhodzic has made the claim that he will not be back for another six weeks.

"Drogba will not be back before a month, a month and a half," Halilhodzic said.

"He has started to run but he will not be available for the match against Mozambique (a 2010 World Cup qualifier, September 5)."

Drogba had been pencilled for a return to action at the end of August - although new Chelsea chief Luiz Felipe Scolari has always said he would not rush him back into action.

However, news that he may not be back until October is a huge blow to Chelsea - whose need for a new forward now looks even more pressing

Was going to say exactly what BL said.

I wouldn't take to much notice of this.

Ben Andrews who now seems to be the main man on ChelseaTV, or Gigi (cant remember who did the report last night), said that although Sunday would come too early for him, he could be in contention for the Spurs game the following week.

Note: Changed the topic title on this one guys. Too vague.

From TOCFCWS:

'Drogba is better than before,' Scolari said.

'His knee is very well and he has been training every day in the morning and afternoon.

'Maybe against Tottenham, it is possible [for him] to play 30-45 minutes but if not Tottenham, complete recuperation for next game after the next national team games.'

I ain't worried as long as Anelka stays in form and healthy. Kalou should be back soon, but he lacks the size of dDrogs and Anelka. we do have di santo and sheva to fall back on. Sheva would be OK as long as the midfield gets alot of shot for him to get the rebound off of....
