Radamel Falcao

-We basically never play 2 strikers so Costa and Falcao understanding each other means very little

-Drogba was 37 and on relatively low wages;

- It doesn't mean that Jose isn't going to use two strikers from time to time. Simeone only used Falcao and Diego Costa in a 442 system against the lesser sides. Mostly at Calderon. Other than it, it was 4231/433 with Falcao upfront and Diego on the wings.

- £100k (€140k) p/w is anything but low wages IMO. Football is like cycling. Once you've learned it, you can't forget it. Falcao hasn't forgotten how to score goals, he needs a new challenge and a top manager to trust in his abiliy that he can go back to his old form. And we all know Jose was always a big fan of Falcao.

Bamford was never going to be at Chelsea next season. He needs to be playing every week.

Disappointing as that may sound, I think a loan move to a Premier League club next season sounds good for Bamford.. I'd love him to join Southampton for a season!

As for Falcao.. I just don't see him as a third choice striker, but it's not a bad backup if Costa gets an injury..

We should make a deal that includes a loan with option to buy. If he plays good then we will buy him for the proposed money we already agreed with Monaco if not we will not buy him.

I completely agree with your post but didn't we say the same about Torres?

100k?? More like 2-300k. Those were the figures quoted when he joined United anyway.

EDIT - My mistake. I read your post wrong. You was talking about Didier's wages. :lol:

Falcao, should he join, will not be 3rd choice. Forget that idea. Remy drops to 3rd choice (which inevitably, and sadly likely leads to him leaving)

Falcao is catch 22, lots of us dont want him due to Utd performances, and some of us do as it is worth a risk. But then if we don't sign him and he goes to perhaps Liverpool for example, or Juventus, or Valencia and bangs in 20-25, we'll regret it. But then if we do sign him and he scores 1, we'll regret it.

Clusterf*ck

As long as Falcao doesn't emulate the season he had at United, I don't really mind Remy leaving.

Here's what I think:

If we sign Falcao... let Remy leave... let Bamford / Solanke or BOTH go out on season loans... and then sign someone like Rickie Lambert as the 3rd choice for a season, I'd happily go along with that...

If it doesn't happen, I'll be equally as happy because we won't have to dig so deep to pay Falcao's astronomical wages per-week, and then our rhythm of following the FFP rules will be knocked around! Yes, our club is under a heavy debt in Roman Abramovich's name, but we don't want to go further down.

That's why we dealt so well last summer, because we sold players we didn't need for big money (Mata, David Luiz), and bought the right players, for the right positions, at the right prices (Costa, Fabregas). Mourinho did what he had to do, not only to win the title, but also to balance the books. I hope in a few years, we'll end up being a club that is balanced just right, not too much in debt, and still winning trophies. I think we're being far too adventurous with Falcao if I'm honest, but that's just my opinion.

Costa/Falcao/Lambert is even worse than Costa/Remy/Drogba. Why would we do that?

As I stated before, I think it's too much of a gamble signing Falcao because of his wages. But whether it's Falcao or Remy in the squad, Bamford and Solanke will never get regular game time, so loans would be a wise option.

Lambert would be there purely as a utility striker. Plus, because of UEFA's homegrown rules, we need more English faces in our squad.

We can fix the HG problem with Cech going out, and we've already 1 free spot I thought.

Tbh, would you trust Lambert playing CL knock out stages for us?

Remy and Diego were injured a lot this season, DD actually was not enough as back up, but we were lucky because we were out of CL. So why not improve this duo with Falcao?

Diego, Falcao, Remy would make a superb strikers set. Jose will trust all of them, instead of trusting none of them. (Etoo, Torres, Demba)

Remy will get time, since he's already proven himself for Mourinho this season. He will even get some time on the wings.

Of course, his wages are high, so we need to negotiate this. His value dropped a lot since his injury plus bad season at United. Monaco is also desperate to get rid of him. The rumors are saying he wants to take a huge paycut to play for a big team again, so we need to take advantage of his desire.

Take him on 100-150K + small loan fee, and a loan with option to buy for 15-20M. (Not more because he will be 30 yo very soon) If we can negotiate something like this, it's worth the gamble.

Or may be Remy asked to leave to be first choice somewhere else?

That's a different scenario, a scenario where we are forced to react.

But based on his interviews (talking a lot about next season), he's not planning to leave.

Plus, when he signed with us, he already knew Costa is the 1st choice. So his mindset should be settled like that, unless he changed his mind.

I didn't. I've never been a fan of his tbh. And he was a "Roman buy". Things have changed this time. If Mourinho thinks he has the ability to turn things around and bring Falcao back to his form, then I fully trust our manager to do it. Everyone thought Terry is finished before Jose came in. Now he is back to being one of Europe's best defenders again. I truly believe that Jose can work his magic on Falcao aswell.

@petre

That's not necessarily true. John has looked as good as he has because the team adapts to mask a lot of his deficiencies. Matic basically remains glued to the center backs and we also deploy a deep line. All of this is so that Terry's lack of pace is not exposed. This deep line is one of the reasons we find it hard to dominate bigger teams in terms of possession. We are also not too concerned with blocking crosses because heading them or defending is one of Terry's biggest strengths. That sometimes backfires on us as well.

The only way Falcao recovers his voodoo is if such adjustments are made centered around him. But I don't think he's worthy of going through all that trouble for.

This would be a terrible move after all the good work that has been done over the last 4-5 years.

Remy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> current Falcao, but I guess Remy isn't a sexy enough name for some.
