Chelsea to splash out £10m on Marseille star Hatem Ben Arfa

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari is planning a shock £10million plus move for Marseille star Hatem Ben Arfa in a bid to add some French flair to his side.

Scolari wants an inventive talent to put extra sparkle into his team, especially in home games where dropped points have hit their title hopes. And Ben Arfa, 21 but already a French international, is the man he sees arriving at Stamford Bridge in the window if he can persuade Marseille to sell.

Ben Arfa only joined Marseille from Lyon in the summer but he could be tempted by Chelsea - and a big pay rise. Scolari feels his team have gone stale at home and are too easy to shut out. It would mean reshaping the way they play but he knows what is needed.

Ben Arfa has already played in the Champions League so is ineligible for Chelsea's campaign, but it is the stuttering title bid that concerns Scolari.

Marseille starlet Hatem Ben Arfa has made himself a potential part-exchange target as Chelsea look to offload Florent Malouda.

The former Lyon wing wizard has become unsettled in France and has made it known that he is keen on a move to the Premiership.

Ben Arfa only joined Marseille from the French champions in the summer but wants to follow the path of Samir Nasri and Franck Ribery out of the Stade Velodrome.

Chelsea are willing to offer French flop Malouda in part exchange to get their man - rated in the £10million bracket.
