BlueLion. 21,491
Is this really the same player who played for us in 06/07? Absolutely magnificent again for the Dutch, on evidence of his performances thus far it would be stupid to sell him on. Thoughts?
warnie_666 1,081
Thoughts are that, judging players over the period of time is a better option than judging them based on their performances in one match or a tournament. Milan Baros an example that comes to my mind. Boulahrouz was great for us only in one game when he owned Ronaldinho at the bridge. We gotta look for a talent who gives such performances day in and day out for a club over the entire season.

We gotta look for a talent who gives such performances day in and day out for a club over the entire season. But I'm not solely judging him one two matches. What I was saying is that he has been magnificent over the tournament so far, there is no implication there I am judging him on those two games alone. He plays consistently well for the Netherlands in the centre and on the right. He's made the likes of Camorenesi, Ribery, Henry, Malouda, Grosso and the like look very ordinary over these two games and is by far the best defender in the Dutch team. Plus he's a monster going forward. Let's not forget that 06/07 was really his 'settling in' period at the Bridge, selling him basically one year on would be very stupid. If both Belletti and Ferreira move on, who plays right back? Granted that Bosingwa looks very good from what little I've seen of him, but who offers cover? Ivanovic hasn't even played competitive football for 6 months let alone Premier League football, and Boulahrouz deserves a second shot IMO. kbchel 2
he's still our right?
BlueLion. 21,491
Yes, he signed a three year contract when he joined in 2006, so next season would be the last. He returns from loan after the Euros.
Elliott 7
Well in the end we just have to choose 2 right backs. It's obviously going to be Bosingwa and one would assume Ivanovic...
Kez 2,727
This is a tough decision. Considering we have about 5 right backs. Boulahrouz has had a good competition but he might not continue that form back at Chelsea.
BlueLion. 21,491
Well there is always the January transfer window if we decide to keep him.
kbchel 2
agree....the defence is overloaded.... perhaps 4th choice centre back at the expense of ben haim?
EskWeston 696
With the ammount of defenders we have in the squad at the moment there is just no way i can see him forcing his way in! However with a new manager comming in you would think that everyone will get together pre season and the manager will decide who to let go, so there maybe if he can perform a chance to force himself back in. bombayblue™ 55
it also runs out any chances of mancienne making our squad.. even if we don't end up buying anyone now, highly unlikely but possible if no one leaves and scolari trusts malouda, swp and kalou, i'd still like us to sell of some of our players like pizarro, benhaim, belletti, sidwell combined they could easily get close to 15 million pounds.. reduce the wage bill and we could fill these with youth well atleast pizarro and sidwell's spots.. When a new manager comes in during the summer it is hard to predict what is going to happen when it comes to the playing staff. Obviously Scolari will want to have a look at the players himself and he will also get advice from the coaches already there. We will just have to wait and see what happens with certain squad players and also some young players who may get a chance like Mancienne and Cork

bombayblue™ 55
if portugal go till the final, good chance, he'd be on the job staright away.. i mean yes he had off during the season but he wont get another holiday for more than a year now while the portugal players after euro would definitely get one.. BlueLion. 21,491
Well apparently Scolari likes playing youngsters, so I wouldn't rule the young players out completely.
EskWeston 696
Well apparently Scolari likes playing youngsters, so I wouldn't rule the young players out completely. Does he? Well that is good to hear, hopefully he will be a big influence on our young big stars in the next couple of years, especially the likes of Stoch, Kakuta and Tejera. bombayblue™ 55
Boulahrouz could miss Russia game Khalid Boulahrouz could miss the Netherlands' Euro 2008 quarter-final against Russia after the death of his prematurely-born daughter Anissa. The defender, who played in all three of his side's Group C victories, left training on Wednesday after his wife, Sabia, was hospitalised. Sabia was at the finals with the other players' partners and girlfriends. A spokeswoman said a decision over Boulahrouz's participation in Saturday's match had yet to be made. The spokeswoman for the Dutch Football Federation declined to say whether Boulahrouz would be returning to the squad for the Netherlands' last-eight match in Basel. The 26-year-old defender, who spent last season on loan from Chelsea at Sevilla, was a surprise inclusion in Marco van Basten's final squad for the tournament but has been among their most consistent performers. "Players and staff of the Dutch team are upset by the death of Anissa, the daughter of Khalid Boulahrouz and his wife Sabia, who was born prematurely," the Dutch Football Federation said in a statement. The Netherlands cancelled a news conference which had been scheduled for Thursday afternoon. ________ BBC Poor Khalid and his wife.. My condolences..
