Trinidad v England

England's friendly in Trinidad looks set to be wiped from the record books by FIFA.

In a huge embarrassment for the Football Association, all the caps awarded - including those for debutants Dean Ashton, Joe Hart, Phil Jagielka and Stephen Warnock - could be wiped out because coach Fabio Capello fielded seven substitutes.

Only six are allowed under FIFA rules - so Gareth Barry's first England goal, Jermain Defoe's double and David Beckham's 59th appearance as captain all seem certain to be deemed null and void.

Well the FA are saying, and were saying beforehand, that FIFA gave both teams special dispensation for an extra substitute, but now FIFA have turned around and denied it?! Either the FA fucked up or FIFA are being grade A cunts.

Fabio Capello has been punished by FIFA officials after they decided he used too many substitutes in last weekend's game against Trinidad & Tobago. The game, which England won 3-0, has now been declared a 0-0 draw.

Capello used 14 substitutes in the game, including three fans from Carlisle who were on holiday in Port of Spain. One of them, Roger Smith, 59, scored England's third with a toeprodder from fully 35 yards.

Smith, a builder, said:

"I was just sitting there in the stands, and this guy in an England tracksuit came up to me and said 'Would you like to have a go, mate?', so I jumped on and had a go. It was fun!"

Now though, FIFA have decreed that no more than 13 substitutes can be used, none of whom can be builders, and have said that the result must be changed to 0-0, and the game replayed at the Trinidad & Tobago FA's convenience.

Capello, who once used 23 subs in a game in Italy, was unavailable for comment because his English isn't quite good enough yet.
