Hey guys, I need a bit of help with an project that I'm working on in my Business class

For my project, I have to pick a successful businessman (I picked Roman) and do a Biography and Analysis of a Business Leader's successfulness

Here's my question tho... I've started doing research and I've read about and watched videos about how Roman got his money. To be fair, he didn't get his money be means of some sort of wonderful idea or creation but through the fall of the Soviet Union and his position as a Russian Oligarchy. Now, is Roman really a successful businessman? I'm really hoping someone can give me a black and white answer.

He is a businessman now since he owns many businesses, but he did not make his fortune through what you'd normally call "business" if that answers your question.

Somewhat. But as a businessman, is he successful ? I mean, i'd say a net worth of $13.1 Billion means your pretty successful but as you said he didn't make his fortune through "business"

Yes, he's successful in the sense that he's worth so much money and that's kind of the point of being a businessman. He might have made the most of his fortune outside of a "business" but he has reinvested much of that money to make more money.

I don't respect how he got his fortune though.

He didn't become a billionaire through being an entrepreneur, more a case of having friends in high places (Berezovsky). Although his early beginnings are pretty entrepreneurial, he's started up all kinds of businesses. Although his 'formula' for success is impossible to narrow down and you’d just be speculating. You're better off doing the project on someone like Steve Jobs or Jeff Bezos (Amazon founder). Because with those guys there is plenty of 'character' analysis already out there and material for you to base your writing on.

Co-sign what Tx said, you won't get as much information. For years there was rumours of Abramovich being one of Putin's close allies and his fortune, as may be reported to be in his businesses, was made more through under-the-table deals than anything else.

How many videos did you watch?

Roman was not an Oligarch - he was simply in the right place at the right time and had the balls and foresight to take advantage ;)

On Foresight - you should do your thesis on George Lucas, he kept the International Licensing rights for Star Wars and then founded a company which Disney purchased... Pretty clever guy ;)
