Get the 70-300mm. 55-300 isn't bad at all, but 70-300 mm is amazing and the best you can find, other than professional lenses of course.

Also I'd say get the 35mm f/1.8 prime, it's cheap and probably the greatest value for money in camera lens history. It's unbelievably good for the price point. Plus having a prime lens forces you to think hard about composition. Def helps improve your photography skills, it did for me.

Cheers mate!

I haven't actually thought about a prime lens. I've just done a bit of reading on them and I think it'll be next on the list! :D

Prime lenses take you to a new place when shooting! Must do :-)

Well, the more I read the more I think I'll just get a prime lens for the time being. It says they're much better for portrait shots and the main reason I'm buying a good camera is because of my 1 year old, so I think I'll do that instead! :D

If that's what you'll be mainly shooting I definately recommend a prime lens!

You can go to really low f/stops which gives you this awesome shallow depth of field like here:

You get it ..

The only problem is that you dont have zoom, but I guess you can work your way around it.. and u also have the kit lens right?

Awesome! I'll definitely be getting one as soon as possible so. And it turns out that Nikon are actually doing a £20 cashback on their 35mm prime lens at the moment! Yeah, I made sure to get the kit lens as well.

I think I'm starting to understand things (ever so slowly) about DSLRs and lenses...can't wait 'till I actually get my hands on the camera next week! :D
