its not worth worrying about- we still understand you :P and what the hell is all this simple past and progressive past stuff that Lum is going on about?

Well, I hope so. Otherwise we have to change the language and talk German or Bosnian :P

That's what we non-native speaker learn at school/uni lol

Haha yeah, Spanish grammatic rules etc. are horrible. ¿Cómo puedo saber cuando tengo que usar el subjuntivo o el indicativo? (I should have used "tenga" instead of "tengo" here probably lol)

The rules are what make Spanish structured and easy to learn. Subjunctives are an overkill, but at least Spanish has consistent grammar. Some languages don't.

Definitely not easy (enough) for me. I find all that grammar quite annoying, tbh.

I'm learning it at the moment :D

Good luck, my friend. I'm a native speaker and I have problems with it sometimes. I bet only portuguese teachers know how to conjugate verbs in second-person of plural form properly 100% of the time. And not all of them.

I am learning Mandarin the grammar is easy but the vocabulary and characters are a nightmare! LOL there are at least 6 ways to say some words depending on the situations and some words sound similar but the tones are different or they sound the same but the characters are different (ta for he, she, & it is a perfect example of that!).

My crazy kids are learning both Mandarin and German so when I ask them questions they answer me in a mix of English, German, and Mandarin… it gives me a headache!!

It isn't really an alphabet, they say to read a newspaper you need to know 3000-5000 characters (words). I can recognize almost 50, I can do better with pin-yin (looks like English) character combinations, then I can translate what I read, but my spoke Chinese is woeful. My tutor says it is because I am too timid. :) I have tutoring two days a week and should do more but I work some days so I can't always have lessons.

Probably because they learn it when they are little, I am starting to understand more. Certain characters have certain parts called radicals that give you a hint what it is about one indicates people, another money, another home/buildings, another speech/language, etc. I am learning it as an adult way past my prime learning age and I can tell you there are days I look at it and shake my head! My kids are doing much better with it than I am! My daughter especially seems to pick it up quickly.
