The Skipper 20,609
By the same token RLC plays the central midfield position better than Izzy plays the attacking midfield position. It shouldn't be based on position (unless there's a bigger need for bodies in the position player A plays in more than player B, which isn't the case here) but rather who is the most talented and has the highest ceiling and scope for development. That's understandable, but you cannot deduce all of that from the fact that one took part in pre season and the other didn't.
JDY 1,290
I'm guessing Brown was taken for pre season because most of our attacking options had just finished the WC and were on a break. We had enough cover in midfield at that time. Pretty simple.
lionsden 4,689
That's understandable, but you cannot deduce all of that from the fact that one took part in pre season and the other didn't. It's usually a strong indication of youth players standing and reputation at the club especially considering izzy is actually a year younger, less physically imposing/ready. If RLC was Musonda's size then I might agree with your statement. Further clue can be taken from Mourinho name dropping Izzy as one of the brightest English prospect in the academy waiting in line even going further to claim he would have failed in his objectives if he didn't make it here. I suppose you are at Cobham everyday, see them and interact with them daily and you are an expert in youth development.

Gilvorak 3,734
Two very good goals. Lovely improvisation, sophistication and composure for the first. Second is typical RLC, bullies his opponent off the ball and powers through to finish.Real shame he hasn't gotten a look-in since the Benitez era. lucio
Gilvorak 3,734
Included in the CL squad. Good to know he's in Jose's plans. Out of the all the youngsters he's the one I have the most faith in.Btw, isn't it about time Solanke gets his own thread? iseah100

Tomo 21,751
hope he is on the bench with our injuries. im desperate to see him make his debut. There will be a few times this season youngsters make the last bench spot, our squad is relitevely thin so we are only a few injuries from having no choice in the matter, like on Saturday when Solanke made it.Whether they get minutes depends on whether our seniors can build a 2-3 goal lead. That run against Schalke is the first impressive thing I've seen from him for a long time. Mind you it was also the most impressive thing I've seen from anybody for a long time. This is the heart of the matter with Ruben. His talent is stratospheric but when I watch him play he almost always strolls around doing nothing much. I would bet quite a lot that Jose and/or Adi have had a talk with him; the Hazard talk. There is absolutely no point being better than everybody else unless you use your ability to hurt the opposition. As far as I can tell Ruben uses his mostly to look pretty. If Jose gets through to him, he'll have a great career and we'll have a great player but it's a long, long way from being a given. For Reuben, it will be about attitude, personality/how bad he wants it? And he about that age(18-21) where those things really determine how he will end up. I hope what you're saying is the case.
