An abbreviated assessment of our squad...

Firstly I'm not one of these people who naively points out we should be getting rid of 10 players and buying 10 players - all superstar signings of £25m or more.

But I think the biggest worry for the club is if people were to do a general assessment of the players currently at the club by splitting them up into one of only a few categories. What I am about to post is obviously my own opinion and may differ from others, and I would also be interested to hear others opinions using the same criteria.

I have split the players from our first team squad into 4 categories -

  • "Bulletproof" - Those players which are central to the clubs plans for the forseeable future.
  • "Keep Hold" - Those players which aren't perhaps indispensable, but should still be considered important players at the club, or are young enough to still offer something, or there are other areas of the squad which are far more important to revamp at this moment.
  • "Question Marks" - Those players who could still have a part to play in the future of the club but are also just as much dispensable.
  • "Surplus to Requirements" - Those that are either too old, not good enoughm, don't fit the changes the club are trying to make, or a combination of the above.

Bulletproof -

Ivanovic, Romeu, Ramires, Meireles, Mata, Sturridge

Keep Hold -

Cech, David Luiz, Bertrand, Essien, McEachran, Lukaku, Torres

Question Marks -

Turnbull, Cole, Terry, Alex, Bosingwa, Mikel, Lampard

Surplus to Requirements -

Hilario, Ferreira, Malouda, Anelka, Kalou, Drogba

I think the biggest worry of such a general assessment is that IMO there are just as many players in the entire first team squad which could easily be allowed to leave as there are those which should be retained.

Drogba denied a new deal which means he has resigned to the fact that he will leave. Now what on earth is going to motivate him to put in a performance? I don't think he gives a fuck anymore specially for a manager his age who was once a scout for him

Anelka. Same as above.

Malouda is just shit even if he wants to stay here. Surplus

Kalou is probably leaving too so I don't think there will be any motivation for him to perform.

Luiz is volatile and so is Alex

Terry is slow and not at his best.

Bosingwa needs to learn to cross and defend.

Mikel is just too slow for this league.

Lampard and meireless are efficient if not at their best.

Ramirez is good and one for future.

Mata and studge are to of our best players and are the future of Chelsea

Torres. He needs confidence. Benching him for someone who is leaving next season isn't going to help.

Cech and Turnbull have been good

Cole needs a breather

That's my assessment

I agree with 90% of that. Unless he pulls off some amazing performances by Jan, torres has to go. He's had more chances than he should have imo.

Players that need to be sold/excluded from the squard:

mikel, ferreira, anelka, mikel, bosingwa

Players that need to be benched some + replacements for their positions (ie new player):

Terry+1 more defender, lampard, malouda

Players that i would like to see start alot more and who currently are very good:

Mata, Meireles, Romeu, Bertrand, Ramires, Sturridge

& the most common denominator in this..............the players that AVB has signed Mata, Meireles, Romeu brought in - Sturridge & extended contracts MacEachran & Bertrand are players that are worthy of a shirt...........

Unfair to judge Lakaku, even Courtois is doing well apparently, Modric would of been another quality addition. I just pray that we beat Valencia next week so AVB is given the time to build his OWN squad.
