Serbia and the Balkans

I know there are quite a few respected members from Serbia on this site and well, I need help with a little research.

Right now I'm doing an assignment for my Biology class on 'Humans and the negative effects they have caused to nature'.

What I would like to know is:

are there any famously extinct fauna?

have any important and rare flora been wiped?

how bad is the industrialisation and damage to the country side?

You don't need to supply details at all I can research those myself, just the minor points would be helpful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as right now I am struggling with the lack of resources readily available.

Let's just forget the Balkan wars and follow the quote from my sig. Nobody won and everyone lost with those wars.

For the fauna I've got no idea, try smth with google.

The industrialisation isn't too bad and the country side is nice with clear air. There are some parts of rivers that are dirty and big cities are too obviously, but besides that not too much. Since Serbia ain't one of the most advanced countries industrialisation isn't as bad as in some other countries.

Serbia and the Balkans don't get a lot of attention in the States. When most Yanks think of Europe, they think of the Home Islands or Western Europe. The Balkans seem like a cheaper, less touristy vacation; a sort of hidden gem. I imagine the coast lines are packed this time of year, though.

And yes, I'm aware none of this helps the OP. Just thought I'd contribute, even if it's :offtopic:
